How long are you really in your cabin each day?

We always get a balcony, but friends of ours opt for an inside or ocean view because they say they really don't spend that much time in their cabins. I'm trying to decide if it worth the extra money. I personally only sleep six hours, add 1/2 hour getting showered and dressed, add another hour getting ready for dinner, an hour on the balcony late at night gazing at the stars and waves, and that adds up to only to 8 1/2 hours in the cabin. Sea days I might spend another hour out on the balcony napping in the sun, but I could do that on deck. Not that I would ever consider an inside cabin, but I'm wondering if maybe my friends are right? How do you all feel about cabin choices?

How much do you enjoy that hour? Add a nice glass of wine, a nice Cuban cigar (unlit of course:-) while reflecting how sad it is that another day has passed but can't help but be excited about the next. For that hour, if you can afford it, why not?

IMO this is a really good question. We took a western med. cruise (2 weeks). Most of the time it was too cold to hang out on the balcony for more than 10 minutes. It was also the only place on the ship where we had problems with smoke. We have booked another cruise in April 2011, east and west med, (21 days) and have decided on a balcony again. We may try a short cruise (4 nights) in N. Europe in June and if we do we are going to book an inside just to see what it is like.

I think we will try an outside without a balcony one of these day, especially if we do another cold weather cruise. I think the price of an outside cabin is often much cheaper than a balcony. Great question. Lee

Frankly, we would book a balcony even (or especially) if the weather is expected to be cold. It offers a shelter from the rain and wind and you can step back inside to warm up if necessary.

Can't say how much time we spend out there but I do know that we spend more time in our cabin than we would if we didn't have a balcony. We enjoy the privacy of our own little piece of deck. It is worth it to us.

We spend maybe a half hour before dinner and a good few hours after dinner just looking at the waves pass by from our balcony.

To me the oceanview is the biggest waste of MY money. Same size as the interior but more money and I sleep better in the interior. Of course, I prefer the balcony but generally I don't spend a lot of time there. Last week though I was grateful to have that balcony because my husband's sciatica was so bad he laid in bed most of the time so I read and lounged on the balcony.

It all depends. I have been on cruises where we hardly spent any time in the cabin at all and I have been on a cruise where we spent most of the time enjoying the JS and the large balcony.
I have had Balcony cabins, insides, Ovs, JSs and suites - For me it all depends on the where and when really.

I really enjoy siting on my balcony when entering a port and also late at night having my cocktails. Sometimes I just need some quiet time after a night of socializing in the lounges with friends I've made. However with the huge price difference between an inside and a veranda, I could afford to take TWICE as many cruises.Something to consider

I spend a good deal of time on my balcony. During the day (especially sea days), I love to take a book out there and read and nap, I always have my camera ready when we arrive and leave a port, a glass of wine in the evening as we are getting dressed, and often end the day with a book and the stars. I have a clip-on book light that works well for that.

I have an inside booked for a 4 days cruise we are taking in June. This is the first time I've had an inside booked for a very long time. I will tell you all about it when I return but I guess for such a short cruise I will survive.
I booked an inside because I had the same thought as you.
