Explorer of the Seas cabins 6536/6538

    Hi,

I'm booked Aug. 19th on RCI Explorer of the Seas in cabin's 6536 and 6538. These are balcony and connected cabins traveling with the inlaws. My sister-inlaw is in 6200 so we're all on the same floor. Easy for the parents.

My concern now is we're above and to the side of the Maharaja's Lounge enterance. Will I hear any noise? I'm a light sleeper and I'm concerned about the potential. Also, there is some white space across from our rooms and no one can tell me if it's a service area.

The TA has automatically moved us to 7536/7538 after I voiced my concern in an email. I asked her to move us back after getting flack from my wife and kids.

Is there anything that could be done during the cruise?

    Tnx,

    MIke

Hey Mike! Welcome to our friendly cruise community!

I doubt that you will be bothered by the activity on the deck below you. I haven't pulled up the deck plans but you say that you are over the entrance area....there would be nothing there to make any reverberating noise, so I think you are safe.

As to moving cabins once on board---that doesn't happen very often unless there is a major breakdown in a cabin that would make it unsafe or uninhabitable.

The white space in the middle is usually crew area where the supplies are kept--also the crew stairway. Again, probably not going to bother you. They don't usually arrive on the floor for cleaning until 7:30 or 8:00am. In the evening they are usually finished by 9 or 9:30.

Check out our Royal Caribbean forum and look for a roll call for your sailing up in the roll call area. If there is not one please feel free to start one---you never know who might be sailing with you.

Enjoy your cruise and do come back let us know how it was.

    Hi,

Tnx for your reply. The lounge has live music and shows so that's my concern. I could move my room one floor up and sleep with the kids but then we would be separated from my wife and here parents.

Good to know the crew hours.

    Tnx,

    Mike

Unless you are directly over where the music is being played you won't hear it. It's the cabins directly over the stage/band area that might hear a muffled vibration.

You don't want to be away from your wife!
Goodness, how much fun would the cruise be if you were seperated by a deck?!

    EDIT:

I just looked at the deck plan and you are actually over the upper level entrance to The Chamber. You should be fine. When you look at the deck plans be sure to line up the stairs and elevators to get the right perspective.

    Hi Char,

I think you ment Maharaja's. The Chamber I believe is on deck 3 or 4. You're right. I didn't line up with the stairs which I figured out last night so I think we should be ok. My sister-inlaw is in 6200.

This will be our third cruise. In 2008 we took the Carribean Princess to Canada/NE on the Aloha deck. 2009 just the 4 of us took the Norwegian Dawn to Bermuda on deck 4, quiet.

This will be our first RCI cruise. My wife's sister took the Explorer to Bermuda in I believe 2006.

I trust your experience so I shouldn't have to worry anymore.

    Tnx,

    Mike

    Char,

Someone on anothe forum said this:

the balconies on deck 6 has a metal plate instead of plexi glass giving the cabins a somewhat closed in feeling.

Do you know what they're talking about?

    Tnx,

    Mike

Nope! There is an entrance to The Chamber on deck 5 right below your cabins. There is an automatic door that opens and then you go in and then down some stairs to the bar. If you look at the deck plans you will see how they line up between deck 5 and deck 4.

Here is a link to a deck 6 balcony picture. You can see exactly what they are referring to. Deck 6 side balcony cabin (only on Voyager, Explorer, and Adventure) pictures

We have sailed in one of these and, frankly, it didn't bother us one bit. However, if you think it would take away from your enjoyment you may need to persuade your family to move higher where the balconies look like this -->This is a regular balcony like you would have on the side of the ship Deck 7 o

    Hi,

Now I see the difference between the two balconys. I like deck 7. It seems brighter and airier. If my sister-inlaw in 6200 could move to say 7200 I would suggest it but I took enough heat when I had our two rooms indirectly moved. That was the only family suite I believe left.

You don't think the chamber enterance door will cause any noise?

    Tnx,

    Mike

No, the door doesn't make any noise at all...it's not the kind of door that would slam. Besides, it is at the door/hallway area of your cabin and not directly under your bed area.

Just expect to have a great time with your family! So much to see and do.
By the way, if the weather is bad your balcony on deck 6 is sheltered enough so that you could still sit out and enjoy it without as much wind/rain as the higher decks.

    Hi,

I'll post a review when it's all over. Looks like my wife's sister in 6200 is close to the stage.

    Tnx,

    mike
