    What are the benefits?

Your family would also receive priority boarding.

I haven't stayed in but have seen the OS cabins forward on the Verandah deck.
The cabins are quite nice but the balcony is very small and there is almost no privacy whatsoever. I would suggest one of the cabins furthest aft just in front of the lifeboats to have the most privacy. V17/V19/V22/V26 would be the best.

Aside from having a larger cabin and a balcony, not really. Carnivals suite amenities are not very good.
On this class of ship there are no standard balcony cabins.
The suites are the only category to have a balcony.
