    New and Nervous, lol, #2

Hi, y'all! I think I put this in the wrong place a minute ago, so I apologize for it showing up twice. (I'll never be able to find you all again, lol.)

I just found your site, and I wish I had found it a few hours earlier! We booked a cruise this evening for April 24 on HAL's Oosterdam to the Mexican Riviera. We have cruised 4 times prior, once on HAL and 3 times on Celebrity, and after a horrible experience last year on Celebrity wanted to try HAL again to see if it is as good as we remembered it, or if it was just awesome then because it was our first cruise (in 1996).

We have never had a balcony before, and so booked one of only 2 left that we could afford, #5004. It is the second cabin from the front on the port side. I had done some research, and read several places that if you don't want cigarette smoke on your balcony, you should book on the front of the ship, so I thought that maybe this cabin was a good choice. But now I'm reading that the front of the ship is bad for people prone to motion sickness (which I am). I've always been okay as long as I wear the ear patches, but then I've always been in the middle of the ship.

Now I'm afraid I've made a bad choice of cabin to get my first balcony, and I'm freaking out that I've paid a lot for something not so great. Have any of you had that cabin before? Any recommendations on what I could have done better?

As soon as I can figure out how to navigate this site, I hope to be back again!

    Thanks for your help

The front and back tends to get more motion then the middle of the ship. So you might feel the motion more since you have booked a cabin up towards the front of the ship.
But then again, the weather might be perfect and you will not feel anything at all.

As for cigarette smoke; Sure you will not get the smoke drifting onto your balcony when you book all the way forward since generally there isnt anything else in the front. Unless the Captain smokes that is

I hope that you can get this cabin changed.

We have sailed many times out of San Diego-- different months.

The first day and and the last day back can be very rough!! It is rare when that route is calm.

You will fill the movement of the ship.

Hey younguy! Welcome to our friendly cruise community!

Did you go on your cruise already? If so, how did you fare? There are some great remedies available for motion sickness now.
