How do you chose your cabin?

How do you choose your cabin?

On QE2, I used to try for same cabin each time as it was larger than all the other cabins in that grade.

As all cabins are now pretty much identical, what makes you choose one cabin in a particular grade over another?

As I am still learning my way around Queen Victoria and Queen Mary 2, I am trusting to luck an have booked a guarantee.

What is above my cabin, what is below.
What is it next to, a triple or quad might mean children which would increase the noise level in the cabin.
How close to the elevators, usually an area where people congregate and that would also mean more noise.
Close to midships or further aft or forward, this could increase the amount of ship movement that you would feel.

We sail Princess and live on the aft deck. When we used to do insides I got a cabin close to the aft so only had to go out the back door to get to it. Then we got a balcony and loved it so now we get an aft corner balcony and it is the best. Totally private and very quiet
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

When possible, we book the aft facing cabins. We love the larger balcony and minimal foot traffic past our door.

If we can't get aft, we get a balcony more midship but still toward the back for a better ride.

    Always a balcony!

Thanks Sue and Char, so you know what you want when you book

I agree with Reggie, it's a good idea to think about waht is above and below your cabin. You don't want to wake up at 6am to find you are under the jogging track.

I also book a year and a half out as soon as the shp/itineraries come out to be sure we get the balcony we want.

My first cruise we were upgraded up a category and a deck, but found ourselves right under one of the dining rooms. Heard vacuuming around midnight.

So like Reggie, we like to see what's under and over a cabin. We don't mind if we a distance away from the dining room or kids' area -- gives us exercise. We did book midships for our last cruise as we knew there'll be rough seas. I'm the one in the family with the tendency to motion sickness. The previous cruise was our Alaskan one so we selected far forward, but I didn't have any problem with sea motion on that one. We did have an aft OV cabin on one cruise and that was nice to look at the wake of our ship.

I look at the deck plans and try to find one convenient to an elevator mid-ship and possibly with a larger balcony. I look more at the deck above me than below and go for one that is not under a public bathroom. I'd rather hear tables & chairs moving around than to hear the sound of water flooding my bathroom from above

We've never had an aft balcony, but seeing Hanna's on Ruby has me truly tempted for the extra balcony space. Foot traffic and noise doesn't bother me, I sleep like a bear in hibernation

#1 thing for me is the view from the cabin. It has to have a balcony, and from that balcony I want to see things as we float by. This means it needs to be a high level, and non obstructed. The aft cabins are popular with a lot of people, but I want to see things approaching...not after we passed them...so this would not work for me.

#2 thing is I don't want to be near anything noisy or annoying. Right under a jogging track or dance floor might not be a good idea.

#3 thing is layout. I would rather have a smaller room with a great balcony and view than a big room with no view. But if all things are equal, I'd choose the cabin with more space especially in the bathroom... a shower AND bath and more counter top space would be nice.

I don't care if I am near the elevators or anything else. Walking is good for me!
