    Question Cabin guarantee

When I booked my next cruise I booked a guarantee K class cabin. I've never done this before and it feels kind of strange not to have a cabin number and, according to Princess, I might not know until I board. This doesn't bother me. I'm obviously hoping for an upgrade, of course. So my question is - Has anyone booked a guarantee and if so did you get an upgrade?

I've booked 2 guarantees before and have been upgraded both times on Royal Caribbean. Not all upgrades are created equal!

The first one was a balcony guarantee and we got upgraded to a deluxe balcony, but the downside was that it was all the way forward, 6 cabins from the front of the ship. Unfortunately we felt everything in the 25 foot seas we encountered

The second one was a suite guarantee, we assumed we'd be assigned a junior suite. I was very nervous about booking it so I studied the deck plans of the ship to make sure no junior suites were in a bad location or all the way forward on the ship. We ended up getting an unbelievable upgrade and being assigned a Grand Suite.

I now check the deck plans for category locations prior to booking a guarantee and only book guarantees in the lowest category that I'd be happy with.

With guarantee cabins you take your chance; sometimes you get lucky and sometimes you don't. You could end up with an upgrade or in a very good location. Or you could end up in a lousy location, like in the very front of the ship or under a noisey area like a nightclub.

The good thing is the price is usually less and in some cases can be quite a difference, but the bad thing is you don't know where you're end up on the ship.

It all depends on whether you want to save money and take a chance, or do you prefer to spend a bit more and get a cabin assignment.

Thanks. I haven't high expectations at all. Cost was the only consideration! Our class is interior and on lower decks which I'm more than happy with - just to be on a cruise is good enough for me. But if the upgrade fairy waves her wand - who knows

Yep the price was great. That's exactly why we picked it. In fact the difference between the price we're paying and a balcony is our spending money

If location or category doesn't matter, then I'd definitely book a guarantee. I hope you're visited by the upgrade fairy!

I've booked a Guarantee on the Crown Princess. I did not get an upgrade, but got a great location toward the aft on the Dolphin Deck.

We just traded up from an assigned VF to a SZ on the Oosterdam - the SZ is a guarantee cabin. DH has located two of them on the deck plans - either of which would be perfectly fine with me, though I assume that, like Princess, HAL generally shuffles people through these into other cabins that aren't selling as well (as good or better...), and then we'll get our cabin number.

Small price increase for a much larger room/balcony ... sometimes, a GUAR room is a really good deal.

I have booked guarantee cabins for my next two cruises, it's the first time I have done this. I will be happy with the grade I booked, but an upgrade would be nice.
