Carnival stateroom for family of 5?

My family of 5 (mom, dad, 3 daughters ages 21, 15, 12) are considering Carnival Destiny. Apparently there are some staterooms on that ship that will sleep all 5 of us, but I'm having trouble figuring out the sleeping system. The cabin the online booking system assigns a family of five shows a queen/single convertible/upper configuration. How is that going to sleep 5, unless the upper is a double?

I've also read that Carnival has family staterooms but can't find any such stateroom listed on the website for any of the ships that are supposed to have these (Conquest, Glory, Valor, Liberty, Freedom). Any ideas about these?

Planning cruise for May 2010. All help welcome.

Simply book a Quad stateroom(a cabin for 4 people) and they will put a Roll Away bed in the cabin for the 5th person.

For the Family stateroom, you'll have to book a connecting stateroom, which as the name implies, is a stateroom with a connecting door to the very next stateroom.

Wow, that sounds very crowded. Maybe we should put two of my kids in another stateroom, maybe an interior one across the hall from us so it would be less expensive. We fit all 5 of us in a stateroom before on one of our other Carnival cruises, but the kids were all a lot younger. It's a shame they don't offer family staterooms. Although my 20 y.o. would MUCH prefer a separate stateroom, even if she does have to share it with one of her sisters!

Yes you can do that, as long as the 21 year old is also occupying the Interior cabin across the hallway.

Trust me! You will appreciate having the extra bathroom----go with 2 cabins.

I agree! You really don't want a cabin with 5 people in it; you'll hate it. And I won't even talk about 5 people trying to share one bathroom! Better to get connecting cabins with a door between them. Or, if you want to save some money yet get the best of both worlds, just get a balcony cabin for you two and then an inside cabin directly across the hall for the girls.

But I would really try to discourage you against putting 5 in a cabin, especially with those ages.
