    Too much smoke??? Please help

If I get an cabin on deck 9, ( corner aft ) will there be allot of smoke drifting down from smokers above, from the cafe area?
I realize any cabin with a balcony can have smokers on each side that the smoke may drift my way. That perfectly ok. Our concern is that with allot of people sitting up above us the smoke may be too much. Any one have any experience with this?
    Thank you much
    Mc

You should not have a problem with smoke drifting down into your balcony. When you are at sea the wind will keep it away and when you are in port there is usually a little breeze that keeps the air moving. I would not let this keep me from booking the corner FV. It's a great cabin and you are fortunate that it is available.

Honestly no. We get an aft corner. When the ship is moving it all blows straight back. In Port the only way you will get it, possibly, we never have, if the wnd is blowing toward your side, but it goes across, does not turn in toward your balcony. It can, however, on the side balconies.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

From personal experience on deck 9 I have to disagree with the previous two posters. I've stayed in 9197 on Constellation which is on the port (smoking) side. If someone is above you and smoking a cigar you will smell it, whether under sail or not. Rather than the smoke rising up and dispersing it swirls around at the back of the ship. If you are on the other side you may be ok, but my experience of the aft cafe area is that if someone smokes a cigar on the port side you'll smell it on the other side too, just because of the way the wind swirls. Cigarettes are much less notable.

I could never quite drill down to whether cigar smoking was permitted during the day out there or not. The dailies indicated that cigars could be smoked aft outside the cafe area after 8pm until 12pm, but that was not my experience and it happened throughout the day. A call to Guest Relations evoked conflicting responses.

Having said all that, it didn't bother me greatly, even when a small group of stogie lovers lit up on the deck above. It will of course be dependent upon the passengers on your cruise. It could be better or indeed worse. If you are at all sensitive to smoke, have the pick of 9197 on the port side and don't want to run the risk just be aware.

Oh and BTW, if I moved nearer the patio doors it was much better than further back towrd the balcony rail and the smoke never infiltrated the cabin.

Thanks Phil! There is nothing like first hand experience with the exact cabin she was asking about.

I had not even taken into consideration that port was the smoking side of the ship!

    Does that apply to balconies?

Neal, no smoking on the balconies at all!

    From the Celebrity web site:

What is your onboard smoking policy?
    Subject:
    Ship and Stateroom Details

For all Celebrity ships, smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on any stateroom veranda. Cigarette smoking will only be permitted in designated indoor and outdoor areas of the ship, while cigar and pipe smoking will only be permitted in designated outdoor areas. Smoking will not be permitted in any dining venue, casino, theater, hallway, elevator or corridor. Violations to this smoking policy will result in a $250 cleaning fee being charged to the guest's onboard account and may also be addressed through Celebrity Cruises' Guest Conduct Policy. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

Additionally, there is a non-smoking policy on all components of the land tour portion of all Celebrity Cruises cruisetour products. We appreciate your understanding and adherence.
In the past, the designated area for cigar smoking was the aft, port side. And it was only at certain times as Phil pointed out in his post. Don't know if this has changed or not.

Thought so (we had a cigar smoker on the Connie last year who was two doors down. Miserable experience. Luckily there was so much great stuff on that cruise that the smoke was a minor inconvenience overall.)

Another type of cabin to consider, if a balcony isn't a must: an OV. You won't have to worry about all about spending the money for a balcony and not be able to use it at all. Of course, if you're on a ship with a policy such as Celebrity, it probably won't be a problem. Unless you get someone who still smokes. Then you can see how well they enforce the new policy (just don't threaten the smokers...if they get a fine, they may try to get even).
