Do you choose different cabin types for different cruises?

We LOVE balcony cabins . . . and particularly aft balconies.

However, we don't always book a balcony cabin.

For short get aways - like a 3 or 4 night cruise to the Bahamas, it's hardly worth the extra for us. We've been on a pretty good number of these shorties, and are quite happy with a much more affordable obstructed ocean view for the weekend. That often enables us to do TWO short cruises for the price we would have paid for one in balcony accomodations.

Does anyone else book different categories of cabins depending on the length or itinerary of your cruise?

If so, what is your determining factor in choosing the different categories of cabins, and why?

No! We always book balcony cabins no matter what the itinerary. The only time we have booked OV cabins have been on ships without balconies.

And we always put them to good use! I really can't see NOT having a balcony after all this time.

I always book an inside cabin, that way I can afford to cruise more often

When we are cruising in the Mediterranean during the autum/winter we dont choose aft balcony cabins as it can get to rocky back there. Nor do we like cabins forward. We tend to choose a baclony cabin midship.
We also choose a baclony cabin as we are smokers.

If we where to cruise with Celebrity or another cruise line with a strict smoking policy I would choose an ocean view. (unless it was a really good price for a balcony.)
For shorter cruises, 2-5 days, I would choose an inside or ocean view. No point spending money on a balcony for such a short cruise.

Yes ... Actually we do book our cabin depending on the cruise!

On a Panama Canal Cruise we absolutely want a balcony cabin on the lowest deck possible. Normally, we like as high as possible!

Do any of you also feel the LOCATION is a major factor?

Gosh, I try to to my best to study the deck plans before booking. Lots of ships are now so so so large that if you're way away from places you will be going most often ... the location has become much more important than it once was .....

Aside from one time that we booked an OV cabin (and that was for a 4 day cruise), we have always booked an inside. Once we were upgraded to an OV.

It's our way of saving money (and hopefully save money for another cruise). Also, we try to get out of our cabin as much as possible and mingle. Another reason is that my hubby prefers to sleep in a darkened room. He used to work graveyard shifts, and outfitted the master bedroom with blackout drapes and blinds for when he slept during the day.

Well, you certainly get 'blackout' condlitions in an inside cabin!

In the early days we always booked an inside. We did get upgraded to OV a few times and that was nice. We now pretty much stick to mid-ship balconies. As the ship get bigger I now sometimes have to re-evaluate what I consider to be mid-ship.

I booked an inside for the first time last november on RCL voyager of the seas. it was over looking the main street shops where all the parades and magicians were right below me. More entertaining than looking at waves. it was fun, people watching, etc, but will go back to balconies on future cruises.
