    Did I get an upgrade?

So I'm really new at this cruising thing and we booked a gurantee inside cabin due to being young and broke. So today I went to Carnival and received my info on my stateroom which is a 4109 5A? I'm trying to do some research and it looks to be an oceanview room which is good since we were thinking we would get an inside cabin w/out a window? So is this good and how did this happen? I'm not complaining, but just trying to understand BTW it's 12:50 a.m. and it's probably the lack of mental stimulation that's making me a slow, so please forgive me! Thanks and lots of love!!!

That's the thing about guarantee cabins - you never know where you'll end up.

Usually, if you purchase an inside guarantee cabin, you'll end up in an inside cabin.

Occasionally, you can get bumped up to an oceanview cabin or, in very rare situations, you can even get bumped up to a balcony cabin - obviously that doesn't happen very often, but it does happen.

Sometimes with a guarantee cabin, you can end up in the worst locations, while other times you can get a nice surprise.

    So enjoy your upgrade!

    Wink

The 5A cabins can be the best of both worlds. While they are obstructed, they do have french doors that you may or may not be able to open. If they are able to be opened you have an obstructed balcony even though it is not much more than a rail just outside the doors.

I remember being upgraded from an inside to an OV on Carnival. It worked out then (it was unobstructed), but I think if I'm going to chance an upgrade, I would definitely request to be notified first for an okay. And have the deck plan by the phone. There are some upgrades that aren't for the better.
