Don't Book This Cabin!!!

I saw this question asked on another board and thought it might be interesting to see what our experts here have to offer.

What cabin would you NEVER book again and why?

Well, I have never had a really bad cabin but if I had to make a choice it would be any inside cabin. Too small and dark.

As my DH and I have gotten older we have gotten a little spoiled and love to see and smell the ocean. Got to have a balcony now.

The other cabins I tend to avoid like the plague are those directly under the "loud band" areas. No exciting or intersesting stories to tell, just prefer not to book there.

Any inside cabin, especially in the very front of the ship! Also, would never want any cabin under the pool area, kitchen area, dance floor, or next to a door that goes outside.

Always look at the ship's deckplan so you know what's above you, below you, or beside you.

And depending where you're going, you might want to stay away from the front of the ship, especially when sailing in the ocean, where you'll definitely feel the 'motion of the ocean'.

Our first cruise was back in the 80's and we knew nothing about cabins.

On the Cunard Countess we selected a cabin about 135 square feet - that included the bathroom. The first night DH went to take a shower. The curtain literally wrapped around him!! He couldn't move. The lip on the shower was about only 3 inches high. The seas were rough -- and the water started to spill into the cabin soaking everything before I could get to him and stop the shower.

The beds were sofas in the day time.

Never did that again.

Wink

One cruise we had a cabin next to a submariner and his wife and he had just returned from a six month deployment on a sub. The screaming a wall banging was 24/7 first few days then it decreased to only 12 hr/day last couple days.

WILL NEVER BOOK NEXT TO A SUBMARINER AGAIN....

Met them during debarkment and they both had grins from ear to ear.

Too funny Jim!!

On my first cruise, we were upgraded up a deck. Turned out to be right under one of the dining rooms. We could hear the vacuuming late at night.

So, like Pete says, have the deck plans in front of you while booking your cabin and see what's around and above the available cabin. We have even marked our last two bookings "no upgrade" as we didn't want to risk getting moved to an undesirable location.

So, I have to add to my list of things to do---ask my stateroom neighbors if either of them just got off a sub!

Great question Janice, fortunately for us, we never had a bad cabin. We always book balconies or Mini-Suites toward the rear of the ship.
