There is a lot to consider depending on your ship and itinerary but I learned one lesson the hard way... the gangplank is on the starboard side of the ship so if you are on a lower deck, it is very loud first thing in the morning. Especially debarkation day! We were woken at about 3:30am.
Also, the tenders are released from starboard side so if you are mid level or higher on the ship, you will get to hear this racket first thing.
If you like to sleep in late at all, sleep port side.

If anyone has had, reads about, or hears of a bad cabin, please feel free to post it here. The more we are able to warn people of these, the happier our CLF cruiser's will be.

Hmmmmmm I always thought port side meant you face the dock ??? I book starboard side allot and all but one port we usually face on the other side of the dock. Is this meant just for debarkation ???

Thanks Janice, but I can't take all the credit. The tender info I learned from you.

I may be wrong, but I think this depends on your port. On our Southern Caribbean cruise, the captain would alternate. One day we were docked starboard side and the next day he would back in and have us docked starboard. You can't do this everywhere, a lot probably depends on the port master and who else is in port with you.
Aren't some of those tiny little ports fun to watch when the captain parks? I love to watch our giant ship pull in or out of tiny spots. It is very impressive some times.

I spent 6 years in the Navy and no matter whether it's a submarine or surface vessel, you can always tell when the fleet is coming in. Every hotel room within miles is sold out. And 9 months later the hospital is full of newborns.
Just something about that salt air and the motion of the ocean. And you thought sailors walked bowlegged because of the rough seas!!
Maybe that's why I still love the sea after all these years and luckily, at age 57, still like to bang on the walls occasionally!!
It's nice when you share excitement with your neighbors. At least they know someone's having fun!
Pete
In the Army you can always tell when a unit came home after a deployment after about 9 months
Has anyone heard about or stayed in room 7278 on Mariner of the Seas? This is our first cruise, (and I PROMISE if I'm next to one of you, there will be no banging of the walls...lmao) I got it in the middle of the ship and on deck 7 hoping for a good room. I heard that in the middle, you don't hear much as you do from the front or back.
mel Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is
falling in love with your smile.
never been on the Mariner, but on deck 7 with cabins on the deck above and below it will be quiet. The cabin is also away from Stairs and elevators. The middle is also where you will feel less motion.
Enjoy your cruise.

It means one thing everytime, it's the LEFT side of the ship.
