    Balcony cabin

When you book a balcony cabin, do you compare the price to the inside? How much extra per diem would you be willing to spend? Is there a cut-off point where you feel it just isn't worth it?

There is usually not a big difference in price between oceanview and balcony cabins on the newer bigger ships because they have so many balcony cabins availlable. In those cases, we'll always do a balcony cabin.

However, on the smaller older ships that have very few balconies, sometimes the price difference can be outrageous! In that case, we'll settle for an oceanview and just spend alot of time outside on the promenade deck.

But we absolutely hate inside cabins!

We never compare. We love our verandahs and that is the only type of cabin we will book.

The reason I ask is because on our next cruise, the difference between an inside and a balcony is $1400 pp. This is on the Century. I think it is outrageous! Even an outside is $600pp more than an inside. We will go inside, and you know what? We will be very happy campers!

Last year we have decided to switch to balconies only.
Then I got her to agree to take an inside because it was a great deal and is was going to be an extra cruise that we had not planned for. As much as we prefer balconies an inside is better than staying home.

Maybe an inside IS better than staying home, but I don't think I can sail without at least having daylight coming into the room!

Balconies are what we book...and aft balconies preferred. I never let the price difference sway my decision. If the balcony is too high I just look for another cruise date where it is more reasonable!

Yep, the Century is a nice ship, but it's one of those smaller, older ships with very few balconies. It really wasn't until several years ago that cruise lines starting building ships with more balconies, making the price more reasonable.

As much as we love our balcony cabins, I figure if we can't afford it, an inside or oceanview cabin is better than staying home. We'll just have to make do and figure other ways to get what we want and do what we want to do.

After all, ANY cruise is better than no cruise!

    Smile Veranda

    Remember this.....

Once you book you wife (or significant other) into a verandah cabin be prepared to use that as a minimum in the future. They will never go back to a non verandah cabin...

Trust me,,, I know from experience.

Booked Ruth into the Penthouse ONCE and have never lived it down, Every cruise we go on now she expects the Penthouse suite,,,,,,,
