I knew that would get a reaction from you!! Actually, I have only been to Oklahoma once, and the part I saw was really pretty. I grew up elsewhere, but I think the rivalry is funny between TX and OK is hilarious. But I have no idea where it came from. Football, maybe?? Or maybe just being neighbors makes it fun to poke at each other. In any case, you definitely have Miss America and that's a biggie...but I'm afraid she'd have to be sitting on a longhorn in the Alamo for it to impress the proud Texans!

I know a lot of people visit Hawaii and think it would be cool to live there, and then they get island fever and can't take the isolation. When I lived in California I had a few friends that moved to Hawaii and were back in no time at all.Originally Posted by daWoods
But I think if anybody was cut out for remote and isolated island life it might just be us. We are totally isolated when we spend time at our ranch anyway, so I don't think it would be a huge stretch for us to live on an island. Besides, when we travel, we travel big...the other side of the world usually....so long flights to get somewhere are the norm for us. There is no desire to do big road trips (not even to Oklahoma!) and when we're home we're in our own little world and kinda like it that way. Who knows...it might happen someday!

Don't forget that if you live on the Big Island, it's just a short flight (or a long swim) to Honolulu and all that a big city offers. Like you, I think we could put up with the isolation (what a great place to be isolated in) but you never really know until you try it.
Bumping this one up for the new people...

Suzanne, that makes me want to go back!
In fact, we are going back. We decided we aren't giving each other big gifts this Christmas...instead we'll go to Kona for a week or ten days in the Spring. Sounds good to me even if it will be a land vacation and not a cruise.

These guys were great!!! I can't say enought good things about thier operation. We had a great time, and it was the highlight of our trip. (This despite the fact that we didn't catch any fish and my son got stung by a wasp who had hitch a ride on the boat.)
Truely this was great!!! The other thing we loved was doing Volcanoes National Park, but we did that from Hilo. I can't wait to go back to Hawaii!!!
