9:40pm unsubstantiated reports of a Tornado near Berry Hill area. Also reports that some are now without power and some boats/docks already damaged.

So far so good at my place.

Reports of some tornadoes already towards the west end. At the east end, the seas are increasing - St. George's Harbour is spectacular - and the power is still up. Lots of thunder and lightning in the last hour.
Kids are excited, especially my 4 y-o who is clutching his flashlight earnestly.

8:30pm Things just got ugly. Its pitch black outside and the winds are wayyyy up. rain is lashing against our doors and windows and water seeping through every crack it can find. Lots of lightening and rumour of potential tornados popping up.

Im in my bed eating toll house crackers.... wondering how long power will hold out. I bought some beef jerky and milano cookies on the way home... im gonna hit those next.

The weather has deteriorated gradually today and I noticed that people around BDA were spending much of the day getting ready for the storm - there was a real shift from yesterday when everyone was pretty relaxed. As usual, the info in the media has been great, so we have had plenty of warning.

In the east end, St. George's Harbour is really choppy and mostly devoid of boats. I'm watching the few boats still moored on the Town side get buffeted about. The tide is currently rising - high tide due at about 10 pm, so it will be interesting to see how high the sea comes up. Apparently there is a mesoscale eddy around, creating unusually high tides currently. Good job the storm is down graded as the risk of flooding would be so much worse.

Let's see what the night brings!

We just went for a bit of a tour. We went to Elbow Beach on the south shore and then we drove past Horseshoe. Lots of rain and wind but nothing totally alarming. I guess we can expect some strong gusts tonight that could reach hurricane force but so far everything seems under control. The gas stations are busy and the grocery store was doing a brisk business in alcohol sales.

We already have water seeping in through the cracks in our main door and windows and we are using towels to soak it up.

Pics attached.

Well here i am ... alive and well. We survived the night I was a bit jumpy due to the reports of tornadoes. Our power dipped a few times but it always recovered YEAHHHHH!!!!! Still very windy this AM and the surf is extremely rough and coming in fast on the south shore. The street below is strewn with leaves and small braches but i do not see any large trees down and the most structural damage i see is some shredding on our supply room door ( no biggie it wasnt in great shape to begin with). I can not see the pool from our balcony but i imagine its loaded with leaves and small debris.

Will go out exploring with the family this morning and take pics and get more specific info on damage.

Thanks to everyone who emailed and expressed concern.

Good morning from Bermuda where three words can describe the weather Hot Humid and Windy. 06:30am Local.

Its been a windy night on the island although I have seen worse tropical system passing yes we did receive tropical storm gust overnight and a consequence have had numerous power outages. Our electric company has worked through the night but this morning there are still quite a number of areas without power been told around 3800 customers I have not had any information on any injuries although I am sure there are minor structure damage again like I said in previous posts from falling tree branches on buildings and vehicles etc.
Thankfully I have not had to switch to any backups to communicate with outside world actually my land-line telephones never went down with my 110mph hurricane Fabian in 03.
Here in Bermuda our systems are quite hardy and we can handle these wind speeds without to many major complications. Have not had any confirmed tornado reports but would not be surprised if there were. The west end of island was closest to the storm so I again assume received stronger wind..
I think we will see that Bill was at closest point around 10 pm-12 midnight we had a band of rain and constant thunder go through around 9pm with some widespread showers after, I did not have any rain to speak of since then. At that time the wind move further south and increased for my location. The Causeway spoke of earlier linking main island with east end was closed at 8:30pm and as far as I know remains closed this morning.
Here are my stats.
Highest gust overnight 52mph again I am somewhat sheltered from extreme south wind so I can say that other areas most likely had 60mph+
This morning
Wind 35mph South SSW
Temperature 82f
Humidity 90%
Barometer 29.80 this was the lowest overnight and has not started to rise yet.

Thats it at this point does not look like any major damage or injuries, our only Hospital is without regular power this morning but have emergency generators which are functioning normally supplying power to the building.. Most normal Saturday activities are curtaild today including any ferry service etc. The Intl Airport will reopen around lunchtime although the Causeway is still closed as of 7.15am

Have a nice day, the coffee always tastes better on the weekend.

It's good that the locals who are reporting have not suffered any really severe damage. After the officials can do a daylight survey we will get the word on the worst that occured overnight.

From all reports I can find, it seems that Hurricane Bill left Bermuda relatively unscathed... some power outages ... damage to docks ... things like that, but nothing really severe.

So now, it's back to normal, and the Cruise ships can return in short order!

Let's hope the massachussets Coast aad the Canadian Maritimes encounters with Bill turn out to be similarly uneventful.

Carribean Princess left New York 12 hours late, I think because of Bill, so looks like she wil be missing a port on this cruise.
