Back from Bermuda!

What a wonderful place. We thoroughly enjoyed the charm and friendliness of the people, and the beauty of the island. Our 3-hour tour in the accessible van was perfect and my DH only wishes we could have stayed longer. The Botanical Garden was his favorite. I snorkeled in Tobacco Bay and saw iridescent blue parrot fish, 100's of sergeant-major fish, sponges, coral, and a clear view of 10-15 feet to the ocean floor! Our 17 and 21-yr old sons and I enjoyed an afternoon of swimming / snorkeling at Horseshoe Bay, and got some great photos. There was even a double rainbow to accompany us back to the ship! The ferries were great, and even accessible for the power chair, thanks to the portable ramps and accommodating ferry-crew. The Irish Linen shop on Front St (Hamilton) is charming and accessible on the ground floor. The NCL Majesty was pleasant enough, but we won't book her again, because of the size of the handicapped room. I had to sit on the bed to stay out of the way for my DH's wheelchair to maneuver around! The bathroom was tricky, too (shower chair provided, but the entire floor ends up completely wet.) The other guests on the ship were very accommodating as far as elevators, etc. Contrary to what the TA had told me, the onboard credit cannot be used for the mandatory service charge (tip). If you don't spend it on photos, drinks, gift ship or the casino, you've lost it! I didn't find this out until debarkation morning, so the only way to redeem the credit was to charge a bottle of wine. Debarkation was delayed, but we had planned to enjoy a nice breakfast at the Seven Seas and take our time, so when our luggage-tag color was finally called at 11:30, it was only 30 minutes or so to leave the ship, find our bags, and clear customs (wheelchair priority line was a big plus!) Overall, Bermuda was more beautiful than we had even anticipated, and we'd love to return!

Welcome back! It sounds like you had a great time!

Have you been in handicap cabins on other ships? The roll in showers have done away with any barrier on the floor. The showers are pretty much the same as far as the water on the floor. Some have a little better slope toward the drain than others---I guess yours was one that didn't.

Surprising about the OBC! I haven't cruised with NCL, but all the other lines let you use the OBC for whatever you want. Hope the others don't start this trend, too!

Did you take pictures of the cabin? If so, they would be a nice addition to this thread--> (Photos of Handicap Accessible Cabins)Photos of Handicap Accessible Cabins -

Do you have another cruise booked yet?

Thanks for telling us about your cruise! Sounds wonderful! You picked a great time of year to go to Bermuda! I'd love to go back the end of May/first of June sometimes ....

Appreciate your telling us about the OBC ... strange!

We've used handicap cabins on Carnival Triumph and RCCL Mariner of the Seas. Both were very comfortable and roomy enough - esp. RCCL. The drain on RCCL goes around the perimeter of the actual shower area, so the floor was a lot safer. Haven't yet booked another! I have to go back to work to pay for this one!
