Bob I noticed no one has responded to your question............I would have but haven't been to Bermuda since our first cruise and that was 20 years ago......hopefully someone can answer your question.........we loved it.....now whether it was because of Bermuda or the fact it was our first cruise I'm not sure........but we do plan on going back someday. Good luck.
Anyone cruised to this small island? How about letting us know how it was and what to expect?
Happy Cruising
I went to Bermuda a couple years ago. It was nice I guess. I just don't like being docked for days at a time. And just so you know, the taxi drivers are nuts when it comes to driving. You afraid you're going to crash the whole time. Luckily we didn't, but we drove past another taxi that took a roll.
Another piece of advice, don't tour the caves (crystal caves and fantasy caves). My friend, my dad, and I toured crystal caves just because it's the name of an old DOS game we used to play . I must say it was very disappointing. You walk down 80+ steep steps, walk along a little path over 50 foot deep water, get to a dead end, turn around, and come back. You can't touch those things that hang from the ceiling either. It wasn't worth it.
I know that wasn't much, but that's all I really have to say about Bermuda. It just wasn't my favorite destination.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that. Don't expect much. At least the beaches we went to, they looked just like normal beaches except there were little pink specks scattered throughout the sand.
I went to Bermuda a bit ago...1996. I LOVED it. We stayed at Grotto Bay (not via a cruise) the sand WAS pink. The reason is that it isn't really sand...it is crushed shells. I thought it was neat. The Grotto had their own caves which were okay...the bats were neat. YOU must find The Swizzle Inn, they had the best fish and chips and rum swizzle. They had tshirts that read "Swizzle Inn...Swagger Out" I had one...wish I could find it, lol.
Across the street from the Swizzle Inn is the glass blowing place...it was neat. There is also a beautiful garden to visit not far from there. Shopping isn't cheap like in the Caribbean, but fun nontheless.
There were some great restaurants downtown...but they were a bit pricey.
Snorkeling was very good at the Grotto Bay...
Riding the moped was an experience.
The people were very friendly...we took a tour to the other side where the forts are and got to see the hospital...the buildings are pink and teal...so pretty.

Thank you so much for the reply- all I saw was bad things - I keep thinking that their must be something good to see, otherwise no one would go there. The swizzle inn and snorkling sound like it would be fun. Thanks again.
We've been to Bermuda many times, via cruises and land-based stays. We find it a special place to visit. The Bermudians are very friendly; the island clean and safe, even in the wee hours. The botanical gardens is an interesting and pretty place to visit, as is the Bermuda Aquarium. Altho the island isn't known for duty-free shopping, there are many shops that offer quality merchandise at fair prices. You can call the Bermuda Tourist Board in New York City (they have a toll-free number) and request informational brochures -- and a map of the island which will show the many points of interest, restaurants, pubs, etc. No car rentals are available to visitors; just buses, taxis, horse & buggy, mopeds or footmobile. The beaches along the south shore are very pretty, well maintained and do have a pink "tint" to the sand. Of all the islands we've visited, some several times, Bermuda remains our absolute favorite.
We sailed to Bermuda on a whim. No real planning and took an opportunity just to get away. Sailing FROM NY was a plus as well. I wasn't sure how I would feel about being docked three days, at Dockside, no less (not knowing what that meant at the time).
Well, it was one of the best cruises ever, right up there with Hawaii. I remember just sailing in, not even being docked, looking at the island, telling wife i want to come back here.
We happened to have an Aft balcony on this trip, so we were facing the bay the whole time with those warm balmy breezes. I couldn't have even planned a better hotel view room than this!
I even like the British community feel of Dockside.
We bought the three day bus/ferry pass, so that made traveling VERY convenient. My only regret was that we never made it over to St. George.
Naturally, being beach people, we headed right to Horseshoe Bay, and yes, the sand is not only speckled pink, but it has a different consistancy to it. But it was the WATER that got me. Crystal clear. You could even see THROUGH the crashing waves. I've never EVER seen water like that before, or since. We went there every day.
We did make it once over to Hamilton, by ferry, which was a nice ride. But the town looked like every other center of island town, only ultra clean. There were no ships in that day, but that must be weird to be docked right there. It was Sunday as well, and everything was closed, so we got right back on the next ferry and went back to Dockside.
