Post Land Rover & Cave Expedition - Carnival Dream

Has anyone taken this shore excursion in Belize? Do I need to bring insect repellant with me for it? Do I need to wear sneakers or closed shoes?

I haven't taken this tour personally, but have found some details for you to consider. The review seems to garner generally positive reviews from cruisers.

You'll find yourself picked up at the ship instead of tendering and whisked away by Land Rovers. The road trip has been described as bumpy and a little rough by some.

The cave exploration portion is not overly strenuous but will involve a little crouching and climbing over as you go deeper into the caves. Lunch is a typical Belize lunch of chicken, cooked bananas/plantains, rice and a little rum punch. I believe a tour/party bus will taken you back to the ship/port - with refreshments served.

I'll keep trying to dig up some info about bug spray in particular. Check back!

    Thanks!

Along with Tim, I've never personally taken this excursion, but based on what I've heard from clients, I would definitely recommend good shoes (no flip flops) and bug repellant.

I would also suggest looking at independent excursions as those can often be cheaper, better, and a whole lot less crowded. I could give you many MANY examples of how independent excursions are considerably better than those offered by the cruise lines, especially Carnival. You might find one where you are the only people on the excursion with a very competent guide.

Thanks Tim. I didn't know about the tendering or what the lunch was.. Will post a review of the excursion upon my return. I'm very excited by it & hope that the lamp on my helmet doesnt go out inside the dark cave. A bumpy land rover ride sounds like fun. We will see. I appreciate alll your information.

Never been on that excursion. Should be interesting and hope you'll tell us about it when you return.

In Belize we've always done the beach/snorkel sort of thing so mosquitoes haven't been a problem. Their little wings don't fly well in wind.

Inland, they well could be. Mosquitoes love me. The best thing I've found is OFF - Deep Woods. Hunters use it and small "pocket sized" containers can be found in the Hunting Section in places like Wal-Mart.

    Hi LuLu,

Since we go into a rain forest, I thought maybe there would be bugs. Thanks for writing. I've packed the OFF. Keeping my fingers crossed. Also packed hydrocortizone cream, too just in case.

One more thing, Neal. I see that you have been on the Constallation. I am booked in April on that ship. Any tips you have to share or general info that I should know beforehand? I need another laugh, probably.
