We love Belize! Unfortunately, our favorite excursion to Bannister Island isn't offered by the ship on our upcoming cruise so I've been searching around for other things on-our-own to do that we would enjoy!

Wet Lizzard is exactly the sort of bar we love ... plus we could take one of their "water tours"!

While you haven't been there and we have , you just planned our day in Belize!

Our plans are to go to The Wet Lizard ... but not to make advance tour reservations from them. If we get there in time and space is open to go to Bannister Island, we'll do it. If not, we'll hang out at the bar.

LuLu, have you been there yet? We leave on our cruise in 10 days and one of our stops is Belize. I've never been there before. We have excursions already set in a couple of other ports, but not this one. We decided to just wing it here, but the more I read about Belize, I wonder if we should have something per-booked!? So wondering if you've been to this bar yet and whether you got to do your excursion?

Belize is one port that I would suggest it works to have a tour in place, if know you are a not an experienced traveller or comfortable in stepping outside your comfort zone. The area is absolutely stunning with beautiful rainforests and snorkelling, however the town is a little confronting.

On the pier where you have tenders come in there is a secure area with your standard Diamonds International and Lizzards Bar and then once you get out the standard of living quickly declines. Nothing negative, but you will truly be aware that you are visiting a third world country. I have travelled extensively and I felt a little unsure venturing outside and always felt much safer travelling in a group or with a man. The downtown area is about 10 minutes walk and for an experience something worth doing if you are adventurous in this way. I've whiled away half a morning in their department store amazed/amused at local fashion :-) If you do decide to head out please remember that you are in a foreign country and be 'sensible' with your safety and security as well as be realistic about your expectations.

We slept a bit late so did not make it in time to go on their tour to Bannister Island ... but did have FUN at the Wet Lizard Bar!

Please Note: There is small Wet Lizard shop on street level where excursions and t-shirts are sold. Their excursion desk was very careful not to book anyone they could not get back with extra time to take the last tender to their ship ... which was a good thing and would made me feel comfortable with booking an excursion with them in the future.

Their large bar overlooking the harbor (lovely view) is up a steep narrow stairway. Folks with walking issues would not want to go to the bar. Their food was amazing good and we didn't get sick from eating it!
