    Help requested for excursions

We are going on a cruise to Roatan and Belize the first week in June. Can anyone give us feedback on shore excursions since we have never been to either place. Should we book through the cruise line?

Hi Freida! Notice this is your first post! Welcome to CLF!

We've been to Roatan and Belize! Both have EXCELLENT snorkeling!

Others my not agree BUT we always take an excursion offered through the ship when in either Roatan or Belize. Especially in Belize because it's a longer than normal tender ride and so much easier to find something from the ship.

We love going to both and feel sure you'll have a great time!

What kind of activities are you looking for? Relaxing on a beach, shopping, snorkeling/diving, zip lining, tours?

If I don't know the answer I'm fairly certain I can find it.

I would highly recommend getting your own tour guide vs. going on a ship's tour. We hired ActionBoysBelize, (Donald Ramirez) during our stop in April '09, and were greatly impressed with his service. He met us in Belize City, as promised, and gave us a full day's tour (1:2 attention) - taking us to Altun Ha, shopping, and sight-seeing. He supplied much historical information along the way, and gave us that special attention you don't get with large ship tours.

I am wondering how safe Belize will be to go off on our own or should I stick with the ship? For Roatan, I have booked with Victor Bodden for a driver.

Bodden isprobably the most well known name when it comes to tour guides in Roatan.

In Belize - we have done the on your own thing when just roaming around, but not when snorkeling. It;s not like Grand Cayman, where you can find snorkel spots on yuor own You have to taken out to the reef in a boat as far as I know, but once there the snorkeling is goof. Remember that you must tender in, then find your snorkel boat which will take you to the snorkel spot. Then the whole process in reverse for return. This means time can become a factor. If your tour is running late, and it is NOT one booked through the cruise line, the ship will not wait for you.

Belize to me is more of a jungle adventure location. We have done Canopy zipline and cave tubing with Xstream cave tubing and it was excellent. Anther great tour is Lamanai mayan ruins. There are a few mayan ruins sites but we have only been to this one and it was fabulous

I would save the snorkeling for Roatan, we've had great experiences there with snorkeling
