Sorry to hear of the problem, but glad that you were able to get it straightened out without too much hassle!

My Debit Card number had been taken, but the bank was great to work with.

I too would prefer using a cc over cash...I hate bringing a bunch of cash with me, and if there is a problem with something that I purchased...I can go to the cc company.

Thank you for the heads up!

We always use cash for smaller purchases, but if we are buying something that cost a bit more than the cash we have, we always use a credit card and not a debit card for the reasons others have stated; they provide protection against fraud.

Glad you were able to come out of this with only a story to tell.

Thanks for the information! I'm glad everything worked out for you. I use cash or credit cards while in port. Whether in Jamaica or NYC, if any purchases or charges seem out of the ordinary, my credit union will call me to verify the charges. I have had this happen once on my cruise to Jamaica and several times while making purchases in the U.S. At one mens shop in NYC, I had already purchased a few suits and was at the onsite tailor getting measured when they called to verify the charges. Thats' how quick they respond!
