Belize

Wonderful, wonderful snorkeling and diving here normally...

But, today, they are preparing for the arrival of Hurricane Emily. I found two posts on StormCarib that talk about what's going on there as they get ready for this dangerous storm. Here's the first one (from yesterday):

As in Mexico all eyes are looking towards Emily and hoping that it will go north through the channel. People are getting prepared but not boarding up completely as yet. Cliff Evans in Mexico was talking of swells www.wetsand.com a surfing site has a model for swells which is worth looking at.

Emily is due to hit about 150 miles north of us in 38hrs time or so. Not expecting too much wind or swell as we are on the south side but you just dont know, we had a 40kn or so squall pass through early this morning. Other than that winds are currently east at 15-20kn. The government has advised tourists to leave and head for higher ground in the mainland, most are taking the warning as are many locals, so the water taxis and planes are busy. most people are also boarding up and securing boats just in case she decides to pay us an unexpected visit. No rain as yet just overcast skies

We were there last week before Emily. We had a wonderful time. We booked a snorkel trip through coralbreezelimited.com
In belize the ships have to anchor about 20 minutes from the dock. We were on the Valor. Our ship took the ship tours first, but in some of the tours there were 100-400 people. That is way too many people for me. My mother and I and 2 others were on this tour. I booked the snorkel tour and my mother the observer. We were met at the dock by Henny (female) and we then got in a small boat. She charters different boats. Our driver was Leslie (male about 18). His brother Patrick came with us also. We went to Caye Caukler to drop off lunch orders. It was about 30 min. to get there. The ride in the boat was fast and bumpy. This may not appeal to some people. We then went to the barrier reef to snorkel. That was great. Our second stop was the shark and stingray alley. I got in the water but 1 girl didn't. YOu can stand in this water. It was then back to the resturant to eat. Lunch was very good. We had wanted to leave a little early, but Patrick and Leslie has wandered off and we left about 10 min. late. we had plenty of time back at the dock for shopping. We were all hot and tired and ready to head back to the ship. There was still about an hour before the last tender left. Coral Breeze does do the cave tubing tour and people said it was great and they loved not being with large groups of people.
If anyone has any questions, please ask.
