    Luggage.....

I have a quick question....Can you bring your luggage aboard yourself instead of having someone else do it?...I've read a few horror stories about people not getting there luggage before the ship sails and in on case not getting it at all till the cruise was over...Also read just once that a person took her own luggage aboard but haven't found any other people saying they have done this...Thank in advance...Cadi....

I'm sure you can. We bring a little piece on with us every cruise.
So far we've not had a problem with our luggage.

Well I guess I should chime in here. NCL completely lost one of my bags at one cruise.

I didn't get much back from it either.

You can Cadi if you don't have too much to carry!! Other passengers have done it, say a large roll on suitcase and a carry on each!! They take them off themselves too!! I have too many to do that, but it has been done many times!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

I thought if you brought it onboard yourself it had to be the size to fit in the x-ray machine. Is there a place for them to x-ray the larger ones? We're going to carry ours off of our next cruise because we are really cutting it close on our flight time but we'll check it getting on.

I've not heard of it. Large suitcases will not fit through the x-ray machine onboard the ship. I hope they are x-rayed before they are brought aboard.

There are small xray units where the passengers enter the terminal. And small carry on's fit as do some strollers.

But if you were to bring a 25 " suitcase you may not be able to run it through that unit.

All bags are scanned prior to allowing them on the ship. But they have big scanners on the pier.

Items that have been confiscated, but only after passengers are called to Deck 2 are:

    Fuzzy handcuffs,
    Diving knives
    regular hancuffs
    chains
    baseball bats
    Arvids

I guess if you can get everything in something skinny enough. We were getting concerned on our last cruise when not everything was at our door in the late afternoon on our first day. But then we went back to the cabin nearer to dinner (we had the 8pm seating) and there was the rest of our stuff.

One piece of advice I often see is to divide up the clothing between the suitcases (put some of your stuff in the other person's bag and vice versa) just in case. And anything you can't do without, is in your carryon. I also have started typing up our contact info, printing out several copies and put one in each of the checked in items.
