    Question Packing dilemma

Have any of you packed too many t-shirts, thought you learned a lesson, and later packed too many sweatshirts? I made those mistakes for national park trips and want to know how I can pack the right number of each shirt type for my destination. Should I overpack just to be ready for anything, plan to dress in layers, or figure out exactly what I will need to wear on my vacation?

I pack one tee shirt for each day at the most. I know I will buy some for souveneirs to bring back and wear them too, so pack the bare minimum.

I always tell people to pack half as much as you want and it'll be twice as much as you need.

And the other rule of thumb is to take twice as many pictures as you want to take and it'll be half as much as you should have taken.

I learned how to pack light when I started taking trips without my DH and needed to lift/cart that luggage around myself

How long of a trip are you taking? When it comes to sweatshirts, chances are that you're wearing them over other shirts/tops so for a 7 days trip, I'd probably take 3 sweatshirts, unless I'm also taking a jacket or sweater then I'd reduce the number of sweatshirts to 2. As for the t-shirts (or regular tops since I don't really wear t-shirts too often) , I'd take one top for each day of the trip and one spare just in case.

I always take too many pictures, but come home wishing I had taken more because some of them are bad. I recently got a 4G memory card to make sure that will not be a problem.

My trip is 7 days including both flights unless you count the last 15 minutes of my return flight, which lands at 12:15 a.m. I leave Saturday and return Friday next week.

Layering is the key if you need to pack for fluctuating temps.
