    Packing...

Well last week it was sort out what still fitted, today it was decide what to take & what not, which then led to what we could fit in the measly 23kg(50lbs) allowance, the luggage scale (cheapo one) broke so we went back to the original method of weigh yourself then add case, we vow NEVER to do this again..no more flying (that's what we say now!).Eventually got it done, taking stuff out of one, back in the other putting it in the hand carry-on's. About the only thing we haven't worked out is my marine binoculars, they are heavy.

Pack like me and you will have no worries.

Night before departure I run around the house packing stuff and writing it down on a piece of paper. Once the suitcase is full I review the list and make sure I have all the important stuff (nothing really it is all replaceable) razor, bathing suit, underwear, nice cloths blah blah. If I missed something important then I add it. Once that part is done I weigh it, if it is over max weight I toss stuff out until I meet the weight requirement.

I do all that in about 1 hour or less.

Now for the things I toss out I try and remove items that can be carried on a plane and stuff it into a carry on bag.

Simple no stress. Best part is I am done in less then an hour and my G/F is standing there crying. because she is so lost on trying to make it all work. So glad I am a simple guy

And every time I try that method I forget something critical. I have forgotten ties, toothbrushes, pajamas, and the list goes on and on......

John, the ship has no laundry facilities? If worse comes to worse you can always take your clothes to a dry cleaner with one hour service during one of your shore days in the States. I know Charleston has dry cleaners!

Oh, I need a month to start packing. I revise the last list I can find on the computer and change it as to number of days and weather.

Then I start searching through for samples that I've stashed away.

Then I take out all the clothes from my closet, put back much of it, and then agonized over what I think I might actually wear. Then realize I still have too much on the couch and agonize over what to return to the closet. Then I look at the girl's clothes, and repeat. Then hubby comes home and says I still have too much stuff to take. Then I have to remind him I was packing two women's worth of stuff. But he's a guy and doesn't understand.

We do look at packing clothing that we can wear more than once or throw into the washer onboard. And that's a must for us: a self-service laundry. My girl is allergic to regular detergent so we can't use the ship's laundry service. We only use allergen free detergent. I will be trying out the Purell 3-in-l sheets as I finally found their fragrance free one.

The ship has self service laundry, & a laundry service but no dry cleaning, apparently it's an environmental thing. I did think about getting my suit cleaned some where in the US, probably New Orleans as we are there overnight

One other thing, we are a bit out of touch with regulations...where do you put things like electrical chargers & power strips ....checked bags or carry on bags? the websites I have checked conflict.

Checked bags if at all possible. Generally I keep only valuables and "soft" stuff in my carryons.
