    Robbed while cruising

Interesting article on CNN.com this morning. Cruise line employee accessing personal info to rob cruisers while they're on vacation.

Our police department has a "vacation watch" program. We're also fortunate enough to have some really good neighbors. Although our dogs will be taken care of by the breeder we got them from, we still have a house sitter to make sure the house doesn't look vacant. What do you do for "home security" while you're on vacation?

    Here's the link for the story;

Always sorry to hear when things like that happen.

Our house is in a gated community which has extremely tight security at night ... only way in or out is through the front gate with security guards. By day, less so ... but there are always security guards driving around.

Fortunately, we have great neighbors and we all watch out for each other in general ... not only while on vacation.

Still, things can happen and we should be more careful than we often are. How many of us are guilty of not cutting on our security syetem when we're just going shopping for a couple of hours! I know I am!

I read about that RCI cruise planner. She really thought she had a good racket going.

We always turn on our system whever we go anywhere.

We have great neighbors, and our daughter moved back home ... no one told me they COME BACK ... so we have a simplified security situation.

We don't advise the newspaper, Post Office, etc. when we go on vacation; our neighbors or our daughter collect the mail and the newspapers. California has a relatively high rate of residential burglaries, but not having the papers stack up in front of the house at least keeps the place looking lived in. We have lights on timers, and outside lights with those motion sensors so they come on whenever anyone approaches. So far, so good ...

That story took on quite a lot of notoriety here in Central Florida!

It seems to me that, the bottom line remains
** did you advertise your absence?
** how much info did you give your "travel agent?"

As in all things, be careful, be careful!

Our daughter moves into our house when we cruise. She is divorced and lives in a small apartment, so she thinks it's a big treat to stay at our house. Problem is when we return, she never wants to leave!

Hear you! In my childhood we normally didn't have to worry about locking doors ....

Now, I live in the same city (not huge but the largest in SC) , and now live in a gated community and still lock-up when we are gone and have an alarm system.

If that happen with a few people who stay on the same cruise I belief they will trace it very quickly.

If the ship goes where you want to go when you want to go, then go.

We do not have a home - we have been packing money away living with the parental units of my Girl Friend. Someone is always home. When they go away we stay, when we go away they stay.

I have said in other threads about shopping for a home, one of my first major purchases will be a security system. TV First lol

But, my home security system will be consisting of (but not limited to)

Alarm - with central monitoring, backup battery, and backup cell phone
    CCTV
    Safe - bolted to floor

I do suggest you all do the same. Even a gated community gets robbed.
