Celebrity has what we had on our first HAL cruise, an attitude of graciousness that is all too often missing from many cruises. They don't go in for the hype or electricity of some of the lines. Instead they let their elegance and class speak for itself. They go the extra mile and seem to want you to have a great time.

I have not sailed Cunard yet, but looking at their literature, talking to their reps, and talking to a few of the people over here, Cunard seems to have maintained that "British" air. Their ships seem to have kept the ambiance of the great liners of last century. Of course, they owned many of them and know how to do things right.

RCL and Princess are a step down in my opinion catering a bit more to the masses and to families. I keep looking at both of them but they appear to be a bit "ordinary" to me.

Just my viewpoints! (Of course I have not included Regent, Crystal, or Silversea in this list. I would love to sail any of them but my budget does not allow it)

Neal, that’s the information I’m looking for.
We certain have to try Celebrity next time, Cunard is also on my list because it’s just you say their ships seem to have kept the ambiance of the great liners of last century and the most famous ship the have in the past was the Titanic.

If the ship goes where you want to go when you want to go, then go.

    Elegance aboard Cunard

We have sailed Cunard three times (twice on the QM2 and once on the QE2). I wish we could sail more but they are a little pricier than other lines like Celebrity that offer a nicer atmosphere. We did two transatlantics which are six days over and six back (we stayed in Bournemouth for 4 days inbetween sailings) and it gave us the opportunity to thoroughly explore and enjoy the ships as well as meet so many different kinds of people.

Expect that formal nights will be just that--formal. And if you do the crossing, every night is formal. If you love ballroom dancing, the Queens room on the QM2 is absolutely a dream. It's also the place for afternoon tea which is a must everyday. (Drooling at the thought of scones and cream).

It is a touch of the old way of cruising. There are "classes". We went with "steerage" and did not feel deprived in any way. I could go on. . . It is just a really nice way to enjoy a more elegant way of cruising without the price of boutique cruise lines.

Karen, that is exactly why I would love to go on Cunard. But, what I want to do is combine the TA with the cruise around the British Isles.
