Overstock dot com has luggage at different price points and shipping for less than three dollars. I bought a two piece set last February of lightweight hard sided bags and I love them. I went back this past January and bought the three piece set. I'd have to crawl back into a deep closet to find the name so my main suggestion is to check out the site for some of the suggestions noted above. I did see a carry-on cosmetic case for $450 marked down from who knows what for the rich and famous that check this site!!

Many people recommend Briggs and Rilley because it is guaranteed for life, will be repaired or replaced even if damage is caused by the airline. My daughter works for an airline and interestingly enough she mentioned to me on the weekend that the disadvantage to buying luggage of a unique colour is that people who own them don't check the tags. They assume it is a unique colour and just pick up the bag and leave so if there happens to be two the same on a flight there can be problems. At least with the traditional colours people are more cautious about making sure they have the correct bag.

We have had some good luck with "Ricardo" Brand luggage.. it is not too expensive and they seem fairly durable ..we have taken them numerous vacations over the past 4 years and they are still in pretty good shape.. these trips involved international flights as well..

We have totally solved that problem. My wife likes fancy, colorful socks. Before every cruise she buys a few pair and we tie them around the handles of the suitcase, one sock per suitcase. Very distinctive, very cheap, and the ones that survive she gets to wear!

Haven't heard anything on this subject in a while, so thought I'd bring it up again.

Anyone have anything to add about their favorite suitcases?? What brand do you have and why do you like it or hate it?

I have a set that was special made for Sandals Resort as part of a promotion they did a few years ago. They have taken a beating ever since and show very little wear. If I knew who made them I would certainly look into buying a set from the manufacturer. That is, if and when this set wears out before I get too old to travel.

I'm perfectly satisfied with my American Tourister bags. One is, technically (I think) what we used to call a 26-incher. One can be (or once upon a time could be) carried onto an airplane - something I don't do anymore.

For cruising these two are perfect. The small bag comfortably holds my CPAP device and 2 "ditty" bags (that is, all the stuff needed to make me not only presentable but also to keep me on my feet) and pjs. It is perfect to carry me through that last night aboard, when the big bag disappears along about 1:00am!

Thanks, Pete, for bringing this post back up! Comes at a great time for me since we need to buy some new luggage.

We'd like something extremely light weight. This is not only for air travel but also for our general use ... the lighter the better!

We've looked at some Sub-0-G. Their 29" only weights 6.3 lbs. Had anyone used/knows anything about
    the Sub-0-G?
