At what temperature do you set your thermostat when you're away on a cruise and there's neither anyone nor a pet in the house?

In the summer we usually leave it at 80 degrees.
In winter we leave it at 65 degrees.
We also turn our hot water heater down.No need to keep heating that water when no one is using it!

We have a dog so someone is usually at our city house. Although, she'd prefer the thermostat to be on 60 all year if she could operate it with that coat of hers.
We leave our mountain house heat on 52 when we're not up there. It's just enough so the heat pipes don't freeze. We have well water up there and we shut the circuit breaker off that is connected to the well pump.

Thanks for the reminder about the hot water heater, Char! My DH often forgets to do that even when we're away for several weeks.

I'm an 80 and 65er too. We never have turned down our water heater though. We usually arrive home late from a cruise and one of the first things I do after we get home is take a nice long hot shower. I don't think I would want to wait until the water heater heats!

Garry, that's probably why DH "forgets" to cut ours down.

In the winter we turn our heat down to 60 degrees.
In the summer we turn the air up to 78.

Cruising is a wonderful way to enjoy retirement!!
Stopped counting after 110 cruises.
Good tips, I never thought about turning the power off to the well pump or turn down the water heater, now if only I can remember this Sat. morning when I leave for our cruise. Just wrote myself a note.

We just turn it off! At the price we pay here for gas/electric, I feel like at least I can buy a drink or two for the money we save![]()
