[Whisper] dieting.

As I type this, we've 45 days left before we again walk up the gangway for another 7 day food extravaganza... and the [for me] usual question obtains: whether 'tis nobler in my own mind to diet before or after the cruise*.

Either way, the 24/7 availability of delightful morsels will make grazing inevitable. I'm not exactly iron-willed nor, I would guess, are a significant number of those who will read this.

Which means that I'll gain weight during the cruise. To hold myself to 2000 cal/day during the cruise isn't on my list of possibilities. [I've feet of clay, after all.]

How 'bout you: before, or after? Or do you find that your metabolism is such that this whole thing is a moot point?

Jim

*To 'fess up, I'm a pre-cruise dieter. I purposely lose the number of pounds I expect to gain so that I can heave to at the dining table with an uncluttered conscience.

j. [currently on 1700 miniscule cal/d]

LOL Neither I eat all I want on a cruise and I don't worry about it at all

To tell you the truth, the most I've gained on a cruise is about 3 pounds, and that was a 24 day back to back.

I enjoy the food, but I don't eat until I'm uncomfortable. And I'm active, so it's not really a problem for me. I think I would choose to diet after the cruise if I needed to.

And I can attest to the fact that Sue is a tiny little thing who would blow away at the first gust of wind!

[For me] Life is a perpetual diet. Last cruise was only a few pounds that came off quickly once I got back home and away from all the quantities of food and alcohol. I do utilize the Fitness Center on board and I avoid eating late and to the point that I reach what I know is enough to sustain me. I enjoy many little tastes of a lot of good things, despite the concern of the wait staff that I did not enjoy the meal when so much is being left on the plate and cleared away.

In the past I have blamed the cruise bloat on salt, but I can't be sure.

If I were given to envy [which, thanks to listening to the wisdom of my Lady I'm not,] Sue and Cher would be on my short list, and that's fer sure. ;-))

Aside: For several years years I worked for a man who could best be described [by those who loved him] as 'portly'. He would watch me pack away the calories which, in those days, I could stuff in with impunity. When it grew too much for him he would say, 'Comes the revolution you, with your inefficient metabolismn, will be amongst the first to starve to death!'

sic transit gloria [sigh ...]

As someone who's barely 5'2", even a few pounds plus or minus from my target weight is a bad thing as far as my doctor is concerned. So I worked out a lot before my last cruise and then on the ship, did a lot of walking around. Actually made it to the gym once or twice (but it was a 15-day cruise). I think what worked for me was the mid-afternoon noshes in the buffet. Made myself a small salad (w/o dressing which I don't like anyway). Just about every day had three salads. Had a couple of desserts every day too.

A few days after we got home, I got weighed at the doctor's office and was at the same weight as a few months before.
