What do you take for your port stays?

Besides a photo ID, travelers' checques, camera, and your cabin key card, what do you bring off the ship in the ports?

Besides a map and my list of interesting sites to check out (unless we're going on an actual tour), I like to bring a protein bar in case my stomach rumbles before we find a place to eat (sometimes you're not allowed to bring ship's food off the ship, but if something is commercially sealed, that usually isn't a problem).

Also a little container of hand sanitizer.

All of the above except food, I don't tend to be off the ship long enough to get hungry.

If it is a very hot place I would take a bottle of water though.

We always bring a copy of our passports, just in case. Not the originals - those we leave in the safe in our cabin.

And never forget to bring a copy of the daily newsletter from our cabin; it's got the local contact information for the port authority should you need to contact the ship for any reason. This can be invaluable if you're going to be late and need to notify the ship - communication with the ship is paramount.
