Port was Port Canaveral, Florida on a smaller ship - Monarch of the Seas. They had a security guy outside the main entrance making people put their carry on bags into that skinny metal luggage thing like they have at the airports but never use. He took one look at my bag, said it was too fat and made me go all the way back to the luggage check-in and check it. I debated with him for 30 seconds as I had meds, ipod, electronics, etc. He told me I wasn't getting through security with the luggage so it was my choice.... check it or don't get on.
I noticed many passengers going back to check luggage...
smaller ship perhaps or Royal Caribbean?
Last time (3 years ago) we went out of Port Canaveral on Carnival we had no problems with carry on.
Boy, I hope that is an isolated situation. Has anyone else seen this in FLL?

It seems overboard to be making a big deal about carry on's unless someone was trying to lug a major size piece and ending up hurting someone. Or else, they are concerned about someone lugging around something large until their cabin is ready. If you're putting in the items that are valuables, medicines, a change of clothing for the first few hours, etc., it shouldn't make a difference to the ship, otherwise.

I sailed out of Port Everglades last month and they made the couple in front of us take both there carry-ons back to turn in because they said they were too big to walk on with...this was the Freedom, so it wasn't because it was a small ship. What amazed me is that we were in the VIP line and that couple said they had been on over 20 cruises and always walked on with the same amount...so maybe they are cracking down at the Florida ports

My one special item is my mobile (cell) phone. Its got all my contact number, email addresses saved on it. It gives me the time. Its my alarm clock. It has a currency converter so I can quickly work out the real cost of anything I want to buy. This is all contained in a little phone. The only thing I don't use it for when overseas is phone calls!! Its too expensive and emails are much more covenient for keeping in touch when holidaying as you don't get disturbed when you don't want to and you're not disturbing anyone else.

Ipod, crossword books, nitelite/ air freshner for bathroom, Downy wrinkle free spray ( but now w/ self-service laundry rooms on some ships can use the iron there), landyard for ship card. and a "Margaritaville" state of mind.
Carnival Victory April 22,2012. so excited to be cruising again.

    Koozies!!

I always take koozies for bottles and cans so when we're sitting on the balcony or by they pool, the beer stays cold! And that is very important!!

Besides, they made of rubber and I cover my bottles because I like to practice safe drinking.
