Luggage?

This is going to be one of those dumb question, I am taking the Royal Caribbean shuttle on Sunday in Port Canveral, do I pick up my own luggage and bring it to the shuttle myself, or do I put those luggage tags on my luggage and go straight to the shuttle? (This is my 1st time cruising from a different state.)

Thanks!

The last time that I sailed with RCCL from Miami, we claimed our bags and took them to the shuttle. One suggestion that I can make is that you hand carry the baggage tags with you on the plane and then add the RCCL tags to your bags after you claim them. I know those tags are not meant to tear, but better safe than sorry.

Kristen, there will usually be someone from the cruise line holding a sign and they will direct you to the staging area for the shuttle bus. Sometimes they put the bags on a big cart and take them and sometimes you carry them to the bus and hand them to the guy stowing them beneath the bus.

Are those bags ALL packed now?

Believe it or not, I am not packed yet! I'm one of those people who do it the night before. I have a little laundry left to do and then my husband and I will tackle it tomorrow after I get off of work.

Speaking of luggage tags, Carnival used to send out tags with an elastic band to make it easy to tag one's luggage. Now, they are including a paper copy in the ticket booklet, or requiring that you print them from the internet. On the last couple of cruises, I've had to use reinforced packing tape on the back side as well as taping the ends together that way. I'm not carrying a stapler or tape with me, and it's hard to find someone to help, especially after you've travelled on a shuttle bus, and watch your luggage being unloaded, knowing you won't see it again until it shows up in front of your stateroom. Has anyone else had this experience?

By the way, have a safe journey. Hope your luggage doesn't get lost. (If American Airlines starts charging for the first bag, and they LOSE it, will they pay US back??? HA!)

With all the security regulations and global paranoia, you now have to pick up your luggage and escort it to the ship. Might I suggest that you use clear packing tape on both sides of your printed tags? It is the equivalent of laminating the little suckers and they are almost impossible to rip tear or shred (but given the current state of airport baggage handlers, better make up a few extra just in case..... )

I just saw an alarming video about how to get into locked luggage with a simple ink pen. Carry all of your valuable with you, even if you use an approved TSA lock.

Ref: Luggage Tags

Here's the comments the cruiser made to go with the photos:

We laminated them. then closed them with a couple of staples and a bit of clear packing tape.
but just clear packing tape would work. They stayed fine the whole trip and we didnt have to replace them for departure.. we did bring extras that we printed and the clear packing tape. just in case.

We did not put our tags on before flying as we were arriving the day before. I did go to Staples and purchase a tiny stapler to carry with us to staple together our tags before leaving on the ship. I used the clear wide packing tape to laminate the tags and did that before we left home.

I got some neat personalized luggage ID wraps from luggage handle wraps

luggage handle wraps

They wrap around luggage handles, so they won't rip off.
