Did the Mom call to check if it has been sent?? You will have a problem with checking in, a BC and consent from BOTH parents are needed!! You could call the cruiseline to see if they will accept a SS card but I doubt it.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Although a passport is not specifically required for U.S. and Canadian residents in the Caribbean, Alaska, Mexico, Panama Canal and Canada/New England, it is highly recommended that you always carry your passport for U.S. and Canadian residents in these destinations, an original or certified birth certificate along with a photo ID is acceptable. A driver's license alone is not sufficient

She might want to investigate getting an expedited copy of the birth certificate, even if it means reapplying. But I am very worried that this is too little too late.

If you have a travel agent, have them get with Princess to see what alternatives are available. Also, see what records are available at the girl's school - they needed some kind of ID to enroll her.

If you did not use an agent, call Princess and cry, and see what they can tell you. GET NAMES. Talk to supervisors whenever possible. Have them fax you instructions on a Princess letterhead that you can take to the pier if the birth cert does not show up. And once again, GET NAMES.

    GOOD LUCK!!!!

I sure hate to see anyone travel out of the country without a passport.

If something happens, and they have to fly home fro the Caribbean for any reason, they MUST have one, and will have to find the US Embassy and pay a hefty fee to get one there.

Things can - and DO - happen that make it necessary to fly home from a port of call:

    - Your (independent) tour can be late getting back to the pier
    - YOU could lose track of time, or get into some situation that makes you late getting back
    - A member of your party could need medical attention not available onboard
    - There could be an emergency with the ship (mechanical, fire, etc) that makes it impossible for it to sail back to the US.
    - There are probably more possible scenarios, but you get the idea

Granted, these things don't always happen, but ALL of them HAVE happened. And anyone without a passport can't just hop on a plane and fly home like those who have one can.

And it needs to be notarized.

I noticed the original post is from yesterday. And the cruise is for tomorrow. I think the check in desk will need to see something official regarding the child, as well as a notarized letter from the parents. I would also suggest the parents sign a medical release just in case the child needs to be looked at by a doctor or nurse.

I couldn't imagine not a parent not having a birth certificate in a safe spot. When you register your child for school you need that. In fact, I'm soon signing up my daughter for middle school and I'm ready to bring birth certificate or passport (we got her a first one at age 3 for her second cruise) and proof of residency (DWP bill).

Anytime a parent is going to take a child on a trip without the other parent, you do need the notarized letter, and if you're taking someone else's child (even a grandparent), you need both parents' approval. It just makes sense these days as many of the child abdication's are involving one parent.

I wonder how things went for ronjamie, not sure why they didn't have a birth certificate either especially at 10 years old.
