I recommend, to bring the passport with you...and keep a photo copy in the safe just in case. I also recommend keeping a copy at home as well.
Make sure you bring your passport, that day's copy of your ship newsletter (will have the time you need to be already back on board as well as the name of the port agent), your sign and sail card.
And make sure you check to see if the ship's time matches the local time.

On our last cruise (last September) the Celebrity Today had "Take Your Passports" notices each sea day.

it's always a good idea to carry them when ashore.

I always had just my drivers license and sign and sail card with me when I left the ship, should I really be taking my passport with me when I get off???

In the Caribbean we only take a COPY of our Passport with us. Just there in January on a cruise for 14 days with many port stops -- never a problem!![]()
