Which insurance company should I go with?

From what I have read here, and what I've been told by the cruise gods at work, I know I should get some insurance. I know I want full coverage, but I'm wondering which company to go with. I have it narrowed down to three; American Express at $203, Travel Insured at $176, and Seven Corners at $152. So now I'm stuck. What should I look for in coverage?

Have you tried Travel Insurance - InsureMyTrip.com ? We use them to get quotes and then chose from the quotes.

I do know if you are older sometimes it is cheaper to buy from the cruiseline because they charge the same amount regardless of age.

I can not tell you which to use but I can tell you that you need to compare them to see which is offering you the best deal.

I echo jsme's advice. Do go to the insuremytrip web site and compare policies and coverage. Only you can decide what is right for you

Yeah, that's where I went to narrow it down to the three that I have. I'm just not sure what features are more important than others, like "Travel Baggage Delay" for example, this seems to be a feature that the coverage for these companies differ on. "Emergency Medical Evacuation" is another feature that the coverage differs greatly between the three. I'm 33 and my wife is 39 (well, she's actually 44, but she stopped counting at 39 ) Or am I reading too much into it?

My suggestion is to have your t/a do the insurance. If you have one that is. It might cost a few more dollars, but they have the experience and know what you need..that is if you tell them.

First, I agree with Hanna - talk to your agent as they will have a company they've done business with and have a good working relationship with. This can be invaluable if you need assistance.

Second, as you have alluded to, don't book the cruise line insurance. Alot of times they will not cover your airfare if you booked it independently. Plus, alot of them will give you credit towards a future cruise, so read the coverage carefully.

Third, you can use insuremytrip.com website to get some ideas on rates and coverage - it's a good research tool, but don't use it as the definitive factor.

And lastly, just because they are listed on insuremytrip.com does not mean they have a good customer service record. For example; one of the companies you listed, our company has dropped as a provider because of all the problems we've had with them. So don't go by price alone. Sometimes saving a few dollars will cost you more in the long run should you have to file a claim.

Bottom line, and I'll repeat my first statement, talk to your agent. If you don't have one, then get recommendations. And talk to people or agents who have had to process a claim - this is the best indication as to a company's commitment to customer service.

Remember, travel insurance companies are just like any other company; some are better than others and price is often not an indication as to how they perform when needed.

I use a couple insurance companies, but mostly just one.

Talk with your travel agent, if you have one. If you don't you can still use one to purchase your insurance.

    Good luck...

No TA here. I'll keep researching. Thanks for all the advice.

You will need to figure what is important to you. For me seeing first hand the pain of losing baggage I would always have a good baggage policy. It was not my baggage lost but a friend in our group did. Now, I also have a friend whose mother had an emergency during a cruise. I think both are important but that is me.

FYI ~ DH and I both are truly 39.

I have used insuremytrip for years and have had to use them once and felt very glad I had the policy, wothout looking I can not tell you which company we normally go with. I had no issues with getting a refund on our trip.
