I guess that's good news? I still would never, never travel without a passort! Wouldn't be prudent!

We are going to.. only because we don't have the extra $200 to spend. Hope everything works ok! Has anyone else used just their birth certificate?

Jennifer - I used my birth certificate for my first cruise. It was pretty easy getting a certified copy and I had no problem with customs at the time. I now have a passport. I even like the picture. It took just over 5 weeks to get mine.

Jennifer, like Ruth, I used my drivers license and birth certificate for years. I finally broke down and got a passport last year. You'll be fine.

The article says the US is "reconsidering the date".........I would get this confirmed. Sounds like they have waved off the date but I'm leery of the language in the article.

I agree with Jim!! Nothing written in stone here!! I wouldn't take the chance of not getting one, if you needed it by Dec. 31st, this year!! All it may take is one incident that will leave it in place!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

es, Jimm... after reading the article, it's not real definate about anything, except that the passport regulations WILL be implemented.

Whether its in stages or all at once now seems to be the question, at least in the minds of caribbean travel advocates, who think its unfair that a later implementation of the regulation for Canada and Mexicl might make it temporarily unfair to the caribbean.

    ( Sept 11 wasn't fair, either!)

If people were smart, they would go ahead and get their passports now.. In several years they most assuredly will be high in cost.. It's one thing to sell an item to those who WANT one, and another thing to sell the item to someone who HAS TO HAVE one.. It can get to be like a monopoly and you'll just have to pay the going rate.. Kind of like your drivers license, ours seem to go up a bit everytime I renew it....
