I remember back in 1989 or 1990, I had to get info on a work visa for an employee in our Sydney office so she can work in our LA office. I had to call an immigration lawyer and then make the trek to downtown to the immigration offices to pick up forms. She was coming to handle a client who was going to set up an office here. Apparently it's relatively easy (at least at the time) to get a work visa if you're an athlete or a performer and harder if you're a businessperson.

we applied for our passports at our local library, and got the best deal on passport photos at Costco (while you wait).

Had to renew ours today. For $10 we got the photos done at Walgreens. I didn't like the first ones so the gal did it again. Fast and easy.
