JV The 4 stages of cruising: planning, anticipation, experience and reflection.
Coming up: Celebrity Millennium Wine Cruise(9/17/10), Celebrity Century(1/15/11) and Celebrity Eclipse Italian Mediterranean(7/2/11)

I have purchased insurance for every cruise and tour I have booked, and I have used it twice. In 1997 I had to cancel because I had coronary bypass surgery and did not recover sufficiently in time. Then just last year I fell down my basement steps about a month before the scheduled departure. I would have recovered from the fall in time to take the tour, but I contracted staph infection (MRSA in fact) and was in and out of the hospital for the two weeks before the tour. I canceled, and in both cases, got back everything I had paid except for the insurance premium. But the advancing age and frailty of our parents is one of the reasons that we get insurance without fail.
I might add that I am an advocate of getting my insurance from the vendor with whom I book the cruise or tour. I have never tried getting insurance from a third party, but have read many horror stories on the forums. In both cases when I have used the insurance it was hassle-free and quick. The fact that there was some kind of tie-in between the tour company and the insurance company may not have been the reason -- or it may have.
Again, thanks for all the great information! I will purchase insurance!![]()

Also, since we're on the subject, does anybody else have any referrals for insurers, or do you all get your insurance through your TA?

I didn't used to do it, but now that we are older and often book so far out, we have bought the insurance. It really isn't that much more for a comfortable feeling!

I know this has been around for awhile....................I figure we can afford the cruise and afford the insurance.........however, we can not afford the cruise and not take it OR have something medically happen and not have the extra coverage.
