    Question Barbados excursions

I was wondering if anyone can suggest something to do in Barbados. my wife and I are thinking of just going into Bridgetown for some shopping. Is it safe to walk as we have some mobility issues?

some of the people there are nice -- others not so

there are a lot of poor people there that will try to "latch" onto you -- i just read a report elsewhere where a homeless man kept following a couple begging for money -- happened in town -- this man would even wait for them while they went into a store

so -- you do need to be careful

The port terminal area has LOTS & LOTS of shops, places to sit, air conditioned, and very safe. Maybe, you would be just as happy doing that.

We've been there a few times and never had any problems. Always found the people to be wonderful and very helpfull. Couple of times we just walked into town, did some shopping, and then grabbed a taxi to the beach - they have some wonderful beaches. One of the closest and easiest is the one at the Malibu Rum Distillery - lovely beach! Plus lots of rum!!!

Other times, we've opted to rent a car and drive around to see the sites, visit some resorts, and enjoy this beautiful and interesting island.

If you're into rum, Mont Gay Rum is distilled on the island and, in my humble opinion, is one of the finest rums produced anywhere. Their extra old is outstanding.

The port area there has lots of shops or you could take a shopping/sightseeing tour. Either way I wouldn't recommend just going it alone.

We went swimming with turtles - which took my breath away - and then onto a nearby beach (Turtle Beach?) for socialising and rum-drinking. I don't know if this is suitable for you but it was so enthralling that I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Now I can't wait to visit a turtle sanctuary or go to see the eggs hatching on our next cruise.

When we were in Barbados we did an excursion off the ship. They took us to the highest point on the island where we got on mountain bikes and basically coasted down to the Malibu Rum Distillery, where we had a drink and then spent a couple of hours on the beach. At the end they bussed us back to the ship. We really enjoyed it.

We were on Carnival Victory a few weeks ago. We booked a snorkel tour which was shipwrecks for only $25 and it was really cool. Shallow water, nice boat and the crew on the boat we really helpful and friendly. We spent the rest of our day on a beach that was white sand and uncrowded. It looked like a postcard, just beautiful. We had the best fish burger for lunch from a local food stand for only US$4.
I found this tour myself online i'm really glad we did it on our own.
Snorkle tour $25, Fish Burger $4, our day in Barbados, Priceless!
When we visit other countries, to me it seem like a shame to stay in the cruise ship port area. You never see any part of the country that way. But I do agree that being hassled by street guys can really ruin your day. You don't want to feel like you are constantly being asked for money or whatever. Belize is another great example of this. If you stay in the port, you only see the over priced touristy shops. If you walk out of the port, you will get guys all over you asking for a dollar. But, go on an excursion and you can climb mayan ruins or go cave tubing, which are so awesome. I found Barbados to be the same thing. If you walk round by yourslef, you can get harassed. If you stay in the port you miss out. Book a tour, get out and see the country! It is so worth it. Barbados has beautiful snorkeling and gorgous beaches. Have fun!
