Smile Nassau - Blue Lagoon - Report

    Nassau
Blue Lagoon Private Island Getaway with Lunch

Ship's Excursion -- 4 hours and 50 minutes ... but we were actually gone for about 6 hours.

It was sort of a long walk through Nassau over uneven surfaces to get to the tour boat which was about a 30 minute ride each way. Nice ride with lots of scenic sights. We sat on the first level which was covered since it was very sunny that day. There was a bar on the tour boat to buy Beer, Cokes, etc. The only mixed drinks were rum sort of things.

Inclued in the price were decent beach chairs and umbrellas. There were also ample chairs in both the sun and the shade of trees.

A very pretty place! The beach area was mostly solf white sand and the water was very blue. No need for water shoes. We rented floats and had a great time playing around in the water.

The beach bar was close by. Beer was $5 a bottle. All we ever drink in port is beer -- the devil we know. Need to be able to make it back to the ship!

We very much enjoyed this excursion and would not hesitate to take it again in spring when the water is warm enough for swimming!

There were lots of folks on the tour boat going to and fro ... but enough seats for all.

Once they dropped us off at The Blue Lagoon, we were on our own and could do whatever we wished until it was time to return. The island was not at all crowded.

Blue Lagoon is where the Dolphin Swim/Encounter is done.

Just seeing the dolphins is no problem without paying to go in. There's a bridge leading over. By standing along there they are in full sight. Doing this is encouraged.

We didn't ... but from where we were on the beach we often saw them jumping high and doing "cute dolphin tricks".

It was a great day for us in MAY.

Not so sure we would enjoy being there when the water is colder!

    Hey LuLu,
    I see you're a seasoned veteran
1st timers here. We're cruisin to the Bahamas at the end of May ourselves.
How's the water down there that time of year?

The water temps and weather are almost always great in May! It's our favorite time of year to go to the Bahamas!

My mom just booked the October 25 Bahamas cruise so I would like to know if the water is still warm enough for swimming then. I am so used to thinking water is cold then because I come from a Midwestern state but I read online the average high is in the 80s.

If the water is good for swimming, I would rather swim with a cute dolphin while Mom borrows my camera than watch other people. But I won't cry if I have to settle for looking at the dolphins through my camera.

At this point I can see myself staying at Atlantis all day because I arrive at noon and don't have a car to see the zoo and gardens. I asked Mom, "How would you like to hug a sea lion?" She said, "I am having trouble picturing that." She can't believe a sea lion will pose for a photo shoot with us if we manage to meet one.
