    Nassau

If you were going for the first time what would you do? We will be there for the first time in a week and a half. For a family that loves the outdoors and not too much shopping, what would you recommend? My kids don't want to tour anything. Ya I know, teenagers!! My husband and son want to learn to scuba, but if that doesn't work out, what would be a good second choice for them? I'd love to hear what is good to do and why you like it!!

Noticed you'll be on RCCL SovereignOTS. RCCL offers a Scuba (learn to scuba, etc.) program that your son and DH might want to check out when you board the ship.

June is a wonderful month to just go to a beach in Nassau! This time of year the water will be warm and there really are beautiful beaches (white sand/blue water) there.

How old are your teens? That Yellowbird Catamaran is quite FUN!

    LuLu,
I have not seen the learn to scuba on our excursion list. They do have one and two tank certified dives though. I might just be missing it, so I will keep looking.
My teens are 16 and 13. What is the Yellowbird Catamaran all about?
Would you suggest booking the excursions now or on the ship?
Also, my 13 year old would like to fish. Does anyone know if they have any local fishing excursions that would get us back to the ship in plenty of time? Not sure if we should try any local excursions, being a novice though.

Normally, on RCCL cruises you'll find a "scuba desk" where you can get more info once you're on the ship. Your DH and son might want to check it out! They really will tell them / help them with whatever they need to be able to scuba!

The Yellowbird Catamaran is a "just for the fun of it" sort of thing! It's a Party Boat! Basically, they take you to a beach on a catamaran and then it turns into a party boat on the return. Really... would be OK for the age of your children.

    Have FUN planning!

Thanks for the info, LuLu! We will definitely ask about the scuba programs when we board. Everyone agrees on the Stingray Snorkel, so two of us will do that, or all four if the scuba doesn't work out!
I finally had a chance to sit everyone down and go over all of the excursions with them. It is too late to book them, so we will have to see what is available after we board.
Planning is fun, but how much of it goes out the window after you board?

You can book any of the tours the ship offers on the TV (interactive thing) in your cabin! It's lots easier than standing in line and you'll know immediately that it's booked!

Considering the ages of your children, they'll KNOW how to make the TV work for booking shore excursions even if you and your DH don't!

    Keep having FUN planning!

Well, maybe not on the sov.
But see the Excursions desk at your first opportunity.

I see you did mention snorkling. It does get you up close with the fish without the complexities of scuba. One of my friends is a scuba instructor and it is surprising that you can learn to scuba in one day. I thought the classroom instruction alone was at least a day long.

You might also want to also consider helmet diving. Don't know if they offer it in Nassau but it is an alternative.
