The FALL is dirt cheap! Unfortunately, it's hurrican season ...
Have you ever considered that NCL ship out of Charleston, SC? You and your buddies could probably drive since you're from NC and save a bunch of money. Yes, it's an older smaller ship! You could probably go on that one in the FALL for 7 Nights to some neat places (Cozumel, Jamaica, & Key West) for no more than you'd pay for a 4 Nights. Just a thought!
No such thing as a dumb question, that is why we are here to help with questions. I recommend Bonine, you can get them cheap at Wally or any drug store, they are non drowsey and you start taking one the day or night before the cruise and continue one every day around the same time!1 They are what the Navy uses!!
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

You will find, however, that even a small cruise ship is tons more stable than a large charger fishing boat.
That said, if you cruise during hurricane season AND the ship needs to navigate around one of those babies, it's gonna get rough. Bear in mind, though, that just because it's hurricane season doesn't mean there's going to be a hurricane.
Been on a ship that was chasing a hurricane and I did get seasick the first formal night. Started taking the bonine that the ship has free to all along with ginger ale and candied ginger. Problems went away and I actually started enjoying the rocking motion. In fact, I missed it when we got to shore!

The big advantages of cruising during hurricane season are 1) fewer kids, 2) lower prices, 3) great deals if the cruise has to cancel or reroute due to hurricane. The big neutral is that the chance of a hurricane are usually very slim. The negatives are 1) that if a storm has been in the area in the last week and you are in to scuba diving, the water has a tendency to be murky, 2) you might not get to go to some of the ports you really want to, and 3) your cruise might be canceled entirely.
With all that said 100% of our cruises have been during hurricane season.

And you need to be on board at least two hours before sailing, best to go into the port city the day before and stay at a hotel, then if flights are delayed or there is a reason for the ship to leave early, you will have no problem boarding!!

How old are you? I don't seem to see that anywhere. But at my age, I don't see well anyway
Oops see it now. Mid twenties. It depends on what shipline and what itinerary you choose.
I would say RC maybe not so young, Carnival, maybe a better chance of seeing people in their twenties.
