Driving around New Providence Island

Hello, all! I've been to Nassau several times, but this trip we are thinking of renting a car for the day and touring the island. Thanks in advance to anyone who has chosen to do this and is willing to share their experience and tips.

We've been a dozen times or so, and they drive like maniacs there. Never rented a car and probably never will.

IF I did, I would check with my insurance agent before going to see what kind of coverage my auto insurance included for this . . .

We did take a 'local' bus one time, and thoroughly enjoyed the ride... for a couple of bucks, it was one of the est tours of the urban areas we have gotten (better than the buggy rides)

Unless you are accustomed to driving on the left side of the road it could be very hazardous to your health! More accidents happen to tourists because they don't look in the proper direction for traffic in round abouts and intersections! I was a victim of one such accident in Nassau years ago when the car I was riding in was broadsided by a tourist.

If you decide to rent, please be cautious!

Is it as bad if you rent a scooter or a bike?

It's worse because you have no protection if you are in a collision. You don't know how many folks I have seen being brought back to the ship bandaged up from a scooter accident.

Are you familiar with riding scooters? If not, you are also at a disadvantage of trying to control the scooter and making your mind feel at ease driving on the "wrong" side of the road.

You can tell I feel very strongly about tourists riding scooters in Nassau! It is much too crowded now. 40 years ago it wouldn't have been this risky.
