Repeating Nassau...Successfullly!

Like many cruisers, I have visited Nassau multiple times. While DH sometimes opts to stay aboard, I usually go ashore, as we often cruise with first timers and it is fun to see things again for the first time, if you know what I mean. Also, I enjoy looking at places where the locals actually go. And I truly believe there are more than a few hour's sights to see.

I adore the Lighthouse.....thanks to someone for posting it again on the Bahamas thread, along with others. I entered it in the first CLF photo contest and to my surprise, WON!!!

We love shopping, showing off Atlantis for the first time, finding local grocery stores, Senor Frogs Bahama mamas, Getting a tour from a tourism approved guide. Reading the history then seeing the spots. Learning about the economy from a local...the beach.....some of the buildings.

I think the reason we still enjoy it, is that we are trying to do one thing we have heard about, each time we go..no expectations...just to experience it. Have found some of the best original folk art there. NOT at the straw market, but on back streets.

THIS got my attention, and we have been to Nassau so many times, we've stopped getting off the ship.

How do I find these back streets?

STU FRUS coming to you!

Good information, Bundi! Thanks!

Have you ever been to the British Colonial Hilton (just behind Senor Frogs) for the day?

No, but I think we are going to do that next time. Have you?? It looked very nice from the ship, but I have heard mixed reviews. I love the older hotels, if they have been maintained. I haven't gone to "hotel strip" yet either. We are still meandering our way about!!!

Yes .... BUT ... it was a very long time ago since we were actually there.

The latest we even checked was two years ago*. We decided against it because it was cool and cloudy. Also, it was one of those short port stops so it didn't seem worth the effort.

Would love to know if anyone has been there recently???

* At that time it was $15 pp.

We are trying to figure out what to do in April 2009 for Mac's 16th birthday. I want to make sure she has an awesome time but we are tired of Nassau. We were looking into doing the Breezes but it is $60 per person. You can get a couple for $10 off a couple but that is still $100 per couple and $200 for four people.
