Sydney Ports moves to force cruise terminal to White Bay

Well things are looking interesting in Sydney where we have a lot of debate right now about the location of the proposed new cruise terminal.

We currently have two embarkation/debarkation areas. The first the Overseas Passenger Terminal has been nicely developed and holds one ship. It tends to be first preference for the larger and international ships. This is because the other one requires that the ships be able to fit under the Harbour Bridge.

Currently it is located in Darling Harbour. In all honesty it is not a great facility with guests arriving to a car park. However its advantage is location, 7 minute walk to the city. The new proposed Terminal is at the next few bays down at a location called White Bay. Advantage - well to be honest - none that we can see. In fact why they would choose to move the pier there seems a little strange, especiallly when all recommendations are to develop the current area in Darling Harbour.

LIke to see a bit more in details..... news is here.

We have the same problems with many of our ports. Jacksonville, in Florida, my hometown from childhood, has this big bridge that some ships cannot fit under. They are thinking about building a new port outside the bridge.

The second city is New York. It is always a challenge to get the QM into the city. Has to be done at low tide.
