Air transfer from LA to FL

I acknowledge this is not a cruise question per se, but - we plan to fly from LA to Fort Lauderdale to pick up a cruise in January. I have identified that Virgin America fly right out of LAX into FLL which is ideal. Being from the UK we can identify with this brand and feel comfortable booking. However, I don't understand the different 'cabin' selections. I'm looking at Main Cabin Select for a little extra comfort, but I don't want to do the wrong thing. Has anyone had any experiences of Virgin America? It would be a great help to me as I don't know anyone in the UK who has flown with them. Thanks

We rate Virgin Atlantic as the best airline we have flown with, till your thread, had never heard of Virgin America before. Checking fares for an example I chose 04 Jan 2012. We are from the UK .

You say you don’t wish to make the wrong choice of Cabin Class, well I would put it down to what you can afford, return fares I have inserted. Seat plans are three seats either side of the single aisle, so probably Boing 757 or Airbus 320. Leg room won’t be so great in the Main Cabin, and it looks as if you have to buy your own food. Flight time is roughly seven hours. I am over 6 feet have long legs and never have problems in economy

First Class – Return LAX to FLL $1131

Fly in posh white leather seats and enjoy unlimited complimentary entertainment, food and drinks in this exclusive eight seat cabin.
Custom massaging leather seats with 55-inch seat pitch
    Two free checked bags

    Main Cabin Select $744

Fly with more leg room, complimentary food and drinks, free entertainment, dedicated luggage space and priority check-in.
Custom black leather seats with 38-inch seat pitch (6 more inches of legroom than main cabin)
    One free checked bag

    Main Cabin $173
Fly with TV, movies, WiFi and more at our lowest available fare.
Custom black leather seats with 32-inch seat pitch
    On-demand food and beverage
    Free and for-pay entertainment

Thanks for that Norman. I came across them about 6 months ago - they appear to have extremely good reviews in the US market, much better than their V.Atlantic counterpart so I think we'll go with them. Brand familiarity and all that. Hubby gets grumpy if his long legs are scrumpled up so will probably pay extra for Main Cabin Select. Happy hubby means happy holiday!

Virgin America is a low cost airlline, the brainchild of Virgin head, Richard Branson formed in Aug, 2007. It is separate from Virgin Atlantic. Virgin America is headquatered in Burlingame, California.

Norman has given you a good description of the service differences. Main Cabin Select is Virgin America's premium economy product. It is not a distinct class; instead the service is located at Main Cabin seats in the exit rows and behind the bulkheads.Their fleet consists of Airbus A-319 and A-320 aircraft and they have non-stop service from LAX & SFO to FLL.

I love Virgin America! Great rates, great service. Go for the more leg room if you can swing it. Also, you can upgrade to first class at a discounted rate within 24 hours of the flight if space is available.

I just wish their regular rates included baggage.

Jet Blue also flies to FLL, and does include one piece of free luggage.

Jen, after you suggested Jet Blue, I looked into it and decided to go ahead and book the flights with them. 38" leg room, priority boarding, first checked in bag included - it is practically the same product as offered by Virgin America for literally half the price. It's night flight, but it's less than 5 hours and we get an extra 12 hours on the West Coast. Very happy. Thanks Jen for your valuable assistance.
