Red face Transfers in Venice??? HELP!

Hi everyone! I'm hoping that someone has some feedback for me. I'm looking for any suggestions on transfers from the airport in Venice (Italy) into the city, and then from the hotel to the pier the next day. I had to book the hotel separately because the cruise line didn't have any pre-cruise hotels available (some event happening in Venice that week).

I appreciate any advice. We are trying to save as much as possible. Thanks!

First, not to belabor the point, but this is why it's always best to book with an agent instead of directly through the cruise line. Most cruise lines only use a few hotels for their pre/post-cruise lodging and they only reserve a few rooms - once those are gone, it's often difficult to get a room. Plus, had you booked with an agent, they could have assisted you with your transfers from the aiport to the hotel.

As for transportation, most of the hotels will recommend a company they use and have negotiated rates for transfers.

Outside of that, there are a few different ways to get from the airport to downtown. There are ground options that will take you to Piazzale Roma, which is the central point for ground transportation - taxis, buses, and vaporettos all come together in this area, plus the train station is only a couple of blocks away.

To get ground transportation to the plaza from the airport can cost around $35 per person for a taxi or you can take a bus for 3 euro per person. Then of course you'll have to get from the plaza to the hotel, which can be done on the vaporettos. You can buy a 24-hour pass on those for around 18 euro per person and is a great way to get around the island.

If you want to go directly from the airport to a water stop that's close to your hotel, you can get a private water taxi for around 100 euro.

Depending on where your hotel is and how fare it is to the Piazzale Roma, you can either walk or take a vaporetto. Once there, the cruise lines have complimentary shuttles to the pier.

    Hope this helps.

I have little time today to look where the links are for your question. We have a link somewhere covering this question.

On entering the concourse area in Marco Polo airport you will see a long line, join it. Its the ticket and information centre, they speak English and will give you advice and sell you tickets to get you where you wish to. It only took about ten minutes to get attention.

On the Internet, you can ask your question in a search engine, and you will get positive results

Remember Marco Polo airport is on the mainland, and tourist Venice is on islands. We stayed near the Rialto Bridge last October, and had no problems at all.

Free shuttles by the cruiseline leave the bus station to the ship.
