8 cabins double occupancy. Now, a TA can give a group, any #, OBC. If 8 cabins are booked the TA can get a free berth, one bed in a cabin, so half price. If the TA is going with the group The TA can keep that berth and offer obc, wine , or something to the group. The TA can also take that berth and use the money for the group. the cost of that berth will depend on the most booked catagory within the group, ie inside, ouside, balcony or suite. If more balconies are booked the berth would be the cost of 1 berth in that cabin. TA's pretty much handle it in many different ways.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Some lines do not give a discount, like RC, so could be offered different thing to join the group

Sue is correct, it's 16 people(8 cabins)minimum, based on double occupancy, as is the explanation of the free berth.

You've basically been given good information, but the one thing not mentioned is that the Tour Credit (or TC) can be used to draw down the number of berths in the group in order to obtain any group amenities or price reductions.

As was mentioned, not all cruise lines offer better pricing for groups, but do offer Group Amenity Points (GAP) to be used for such things as onboard credit.

With some cruise lines, you can develop a group for 8 cabins and even though you don't actually book all 8, you can still get any group discounts or amenities.

And some agents book group space on various sailings that you can book into and get these amenities even if you don't have a group yourself. For example, Cruise Planners pre-books over 35,000 cabins each year into group space, so if you were to book one cabin into this space, you still get the group amenities. All the big players in the game do this.

When booking groups, it's best to deal with a group specialist to insure you get all the benefits and you understand all the various pricing structures available, as it can get very complicated. Because of this, you never want to book a group online or directly with the cruise line as it can cause you alot of headaches and heartaches.
