Thread: Waiting list

Hi all,

I have noticed that as soon as a cruiseline announces it's new itinerary, the experienced cruisers scramble to reserve the best cabins (ie. aft balcony). I have also noticed that many of those cruisers cancel their reservations at some point. I wonder if there is some sort of waiting list for those special cabins and if so how would one get on the list? Thanks in advance for your response. Lee

I just saw this and I'm sorry no one answered your questions. We all must have missed it.

Anyway, some cruise lines allow us to book a client into a cruise and then we can put them on a waitlist for a particular cabin. While some allow us to do this with a couple of cabins, most will only allow us to request one cabin, which sucks. Because if you request a particular cabin and the one next door to it becomes available, you wouldn't get it.

Because the cruise lines are aware of this practice, they have changed some of their policies. For example, the family suites require names and full deposit in order to hold a cabin. Depending on the length of the cruise and the amount of time before the cruise, most cruise lines will only allow up to a one-week hold on a cabin without a deposit. Once the deposit has been made, they can hold the cabin up until final payment due date and cancel without any penalties. To help with this problem, Carnival started their Early Saver Fares that have a non-refundable deposit clause. Other cruise lines are now starting to do the same thing. I, for one, would not be surprised if eventually they implement some type of non-refundable booking fee to help eliminate all the problems, time, and hassles associated with people booking then canceling cabins. It'll be interested to see how they handle all the complaints about this.
